I'm maybe not the best at reverse psychology. Nice little back routine for desk workers. Easy to do and a little bit a few times a day can go a long way.

I haven't put reps or how long to hold, generally if someone's more sore I'll start them off with less or a modified version e.g. not going as far into the stretch and build it up as they improve

Any questions try sending us a message on Instagram. If back pain's been bothering you book an appointment by ringing us on 028 256 8162 or check out the booking system on our website https://hughesphysio.connect.tm3app.com/book/physiotherapy

Early stage knee strengthening
Mini/partial range of movement wall slide squats. Can be good for getting knee extension and starting to strengthen up quads after acute knee injury or knee surgery.

Usually start people with small amount of reps and small range of movement and gradually build it up.

Like and share to anyone you know that this exercise might help

Two great exercises for a stiff knee or after a knee surgery e.g. a knee replacement

Both active assisted i.e. you help yourself do them using a towel or your other leg. Easy to do and effective, getting better doesn't need to be complicated

🚨Three things that will make the difference to new runners.🚨

Please like and share to anyone you know taking up running for the first time, thanks

Running can be hard enough even when it's going well, if you're thinking of starting off save yourself some time and potential injuries with some common but not always followed advice.

These things might seem obvious but sometimes time isn't on your side and good habits go by the wayside

1. Warm up!!!
Doesn't need to be overly complicated, doesn't always need to be fancy. Get the heart rate up, get the joints, muscles and tendons ready for the work they're going to do. While a generic warm up can be a good starting point, a warm up tailored to you can be a huge game changer

If you're not sure what this might look like check out a small part of my warm up in the video

2. Get a plan
Again, at the start, doesn't need to be complicated. Just needs to be sensible and it's not an exact science because everyone's a bit different. Different training histories, different capacities.

A good shout is a couch to 5km program and this might surprise you, even if you're relatively fit.

You might be able to run 5km on a pitch but 5km on the road is different, different forces on your joints nad tendons and it takes your body time to adapt to that. Even if you're fit enough, I still recommend this.

3. Get decent shoes/runners
They don't need to be £250 carbon plate elite distance trainers. But they do need to be comfortable, suit your foot shape and also suit your style of running! This can be a bit of trial and error initially but honestly it makes a difference especially the more running you do

This is by far not the only bits of advice for beginners and it might seem like stating the obvious to some but it can be a good start and good to hear

If you've started running and are having difficulties sticking at it because of injuries or niggles give us a ring. Our goal is to keep people healthy and active a running can be a brilliant way to do that
