Ballymoney Foodbank

Ballymoney Foodbank Open Tuesdays 10 a.m. - 12.00 p.m. and Fridays 2-4 p.m. at Unit 10, 41 Ballymena Road, Ballymoney. Referrals are also made by CAP and SVP.

Today in Ballymoney there are families struggling to put food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis - redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill - can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating. Foodbanks are run by the community for the community: non-perishable food is donated by local people – schools, businesses, churches and individuals. Volunteers of all backgrounds help run foodbanks by packing, sorting and distributing the food. Every client is referred to the foodbank by a frontline care professional such as a doctor or social worker. Foodbanks are an emergency food service. To help clients break out of poverty, we signpost clients to organisations able to resolve the underlying problem. Food parcels have been designed by dieticians to provide recipients with nutritionally balanced food for three days.

OCTOBER UPDATE
by Peter Rollins

'In October we received 102 voucher referrals which resulted in food being given out to 223 people. We gave out a total weight of 1888.80kgs of food (excluding fresh produce and toiletries which were also given out with each parcel). This is an increase from last month - in referrals, people and food distributed, and we expect this trend to continue in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.

As always, a massive 'thank you' to all our wonderful volunteers. Also thanks to Basil Knipe for the continued use of his premises. Thanks to both Tesco and Home Bargains who facilitate collection trolleys which continue to be greatly used. Thanks again to the local churches, schools, organisations and individuals who continue to faithfully support us with donations - especially at this time of year when we've received lots of wonderful harvest collections. Many thanks also to those who continue to support Foodbank financially.

If you are considering making a donation to Foodbank we are currently low in tinned meat, tinned tuna, tinned rice, tinned custard and pet food.

Our Tesco Christmas collection is taking place on 27th, 28th & 29th November, when when our volunteers will be collection in-store from 9 a.m. - 5.30 p.m.

Many thanks for your continued support of Ballymoney Foodbank.'

We gave out a total weight of 1627.82 kgs of food (excluding fresh produce and toiletries which were also given out with each parcel). As expected August was a busier month than both July & June, most likely due to the expense of school uniform purchases.
