HOMEMADE GRANOLA

Ingredients
* 340g old-fashioned organic rolled oats (use certified gluten-free oats for gluten-free granola)
* 200g raw nuts and/or seeds of choice
* 1 teaspoon fine-grain sea salt (if you’re using standard table salt, scale back to ¾ teaspoon)
* ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 120g melted coconut oil
* 170g maple syrup or honey
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 120g dried fruit, chopped if large
* Totally optional additional mix-ins: ½ cup chocolate chips or coconut flakes*

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, nuts and/or seeds, salt and cinnamon. Stir to blend.
3. Pour in the oil, maple syrup and/or honey and vanilla. Mix well, until every oat and nut is lightly coated. Pour the granola onto your prepared pan and use a large spoon to spread it in an even layer.
4. Bake until lightly golden, about 21 to 24 minutes, stirring halfway (for extra-clumpy granola, press the stirred granola down with your spatula to create a more even layer). The granola will further crisp up as it cools.
5. Let the granola cool completely, undisturbed (at least 45 minutes). Top with the dried fruit (and optional chocolate chips, if using). Break the granola into pieces with your hands if you want to retain big chunks, or stir it around with a spoon if you don’t want extra-clumpy granola
6. Store the granola in an airtight container at room temperature for 1 to 2 weeks, or in a sealed freezer bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. The dried fruit can freeze solid, so let it warm to room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

‘BUT I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT FIRST ⁉️’

As a trainer this is one of the most common statements that I hear from new clients contacting us at The Bodybox along with another familiar ‘ I’ll start when I get a bit fitter’ 🤦‍♂️

This is not only frustrating but the biggest load of bulls #*t I’ve ever heard

When you start any type of training with us whether it be 1 to 1 Personal Training , Semi Private Personal Training Groups or Bootcamp Classes, we treat each & every one of our clients as an individual. Therefore their training programs and nutrition will all be tailored to suit each individuals requirements and abilities.

These statements therefore become nothing more than an excuse that you have created so as not to take control yet again of moving forward and making a positive change in your health.

If this applies to you then make a decision to say ‘f #*k it ! I’m taking control of my life right now!

Don’t wait until tomorrow, next week , next month , next year ! Or time will just pass you by and you end up standing still and gain nothing but regrets 😢x

SUFFERING FROM BACK PAIN??

Keeping active and exercising is a key part of managing back pain:

Exercise can help with both acute and chronic back pain, and can help prevent future episodes. �
* Movement is important:

Staying active and returning to normal activities as soon as possible can help speed up recovery. In fact, too much rest can make back pain worse. �
* Exercise releases pain-relieving chemicals:

Exercise releases chemicals like endorphins, serotonin, adrenaline, and noradrenaline, which can help reduce pain and improve mood. �
* Exercise strengthens muscles:

Strong muscles support the bones and joints, taking pressure off them. �
* Exercise improves range of movement:

Keeping active helps the back maintain its natural range of movement. �
* Talk to a professional
�If you’re starting an exercise program after a back injury or due to ongoing pain, you can consult a personal trainer , physio therapist or other health care professional.
