01/11/2025

Yesterday residents of Milcombe, together with many other locals from the area, gathered within the village church to say their last goodbye to one of their most well-known villagers Michael Haynes.

Michael was known to many for his kindness and how he cared for his mum Irene more recently following the passing of his father Alistair a few years ago.

He was especially known within the local church community where he attended many services at many churches and prayer groups within the area. He was a bellringer and latterly incredibly proud to have become a churchwarden at Milcombe just like his Dad before him.

Many retired clergy were also in attendance to say their goodbye’s and Revd Dale Gingrich gave a truly personal tribute to Michael encapsulating his remarkable life that had many challenges which he overcame himself and with the support of locals.

Following the service it was especially poignant that every bell in the church tower was tolled as Michael left the village for the last time.

All of us at Edd Frost Daughters Family Funeral Directors knew Michael so very well. He would ring up most weeks enquiring about local funeral services or to ask if we were handling the arrangements so that he could make a note of dates and ensure he was able to be at the services.

When he called into the office he would stay and chat and tell us how supportive his friends and the community were to him, especially after the loss of his mum and shared with us how important it was that he stayed within his family home. Michael was so pleased to remain in his home but more recently was looking to move to a lovely newly decorated bungalow just along the road which he was also pleased about which would have been more manageable to his needs but sadly in the end it was not to be.

Michael we will all miss you dearly, I’m sure you are now enjoying the peace that your faith provided you in your life and that you're once more reunited with your Mum and Dad.

Be satisfied that your work on this earth is done.

Michael leaves behind his two sisters and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Goodbye Michael, we will miss you very much.
