When we don’t achieve the goals we set we begin to feel the guilt of not being consistent. This guilt can lead to coping behaviours such as starving or bingeing or giving up all together on goals.
This predominantly happens due to setting goals that are too big or trying to do too much all at once. This overwhelms us and we become unable to achieve our goals.
There are two ways to climb a mountain or achieve a goal:
1. You can climb straight up the side with no breaks and if you fall you slide back to the bottom. If you try to achieve your goal of losing weight or building muscle by doing everything at once and you could fail to do that you are back to square one. You might not have been able to develop healthy habits/behaviours.
2. You can tackle the climb in stages and make camp a few times, so if you fall you can go
back to your previous camp and wait there until you are ready to try again. You don't try to do something new until you have made the previous thing a habit. This allows you to do it in manageable chunks and build lasting healthy behaviours. You don’t lose all the progress you’ve made and you can take it at your own pace!
Top tips to cope with not achieving your goals:
1. Don’t punish yourself!
2. Re-evaluate: was the goal realistic and achievable?
3. Shake it up and try a slightly different approach, don’t try and repeat what you’ve just done.
4. Don’t focus on the big goal, focusing on achieving the smaller ones. Focus on building good life long habits.
5. Start off with a goal you know you will achieve (SUCCESS BREEDS SUCCESS).
The final slide is a more specific example about losing weight! @ Fitsio NI

January is over and you didn't hit your fitness or diet goals...or maybe January was a bit damp and not quite so dry - don't worry!
AIM FOR GOOD ENOUGH and not perfect. Perfection is hard to achieve and even harder to maintain. Striving for perfection is what leads people to completely giving up on working out and losing weight.
If your idea of perfect is hitting the gym 6 days a week and it's not working, try to aim for 3 good workouts instead.
If it is cutting out all crisps, sweets and biscuits try keeping to only Friday/Saturday or cut out one at a time.
Perfection is rarely found in real life, yet we are constantly bombarded with perfect bodies and lives via social media.
The best way to get results is to do one change consistently. Hitting the gym 3 times a week for a month is better than hitting the gym 6 times one week and then once or twice more in the month.
Cutting every chocolate, biscuit and crisps out for two weeks then binge eating solidly for two weeks isn't going to help you achieve your goals!
Start small and achieve big things!

📣Outsource - to acquire goods or services from an outside party or contractor.📣
Recently, I have bought some pre-made meal prep meals from a local company where I live. I
have done this because despite knowing what I SHOULD be doing with my nutrition, I am lazy
and I don’t do it. I eat conveniently and sometimes it is not that nutritious. I know this is limitingmy progress and instead of just going “Oh well”. I have decided to outsource this part of my life(just for lunches for now) to a company who can provide me with healthy nutritious varied meals.
I struggled with accepting this because I always feel people will say don’t you have that
fancy masters that told you all about nutrition and why can’t you just cook meals for yourself? I
was embarrassed and ashamed.
I then sat and reflected on it and thought athletes, celebrities and other people outsource partsof their health and fitness journey to someone else who has 1) better knowledge of the area and2) is better set up to provide the service or goods required.
⚠️YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF. IT DOES NOT MAKE YOURWEIGHT-LOSS or MUSCLE GAIN JOURNEY ANY LESS IMPRESSIVE.⚠️
It is perfectly fine to outsource an area of your health and fitness journey to someone else just
like we use builders, hairdressers, beauticians, plumbers and electricians. We do this because
we know they are more experienced and more knowledgeable and they will do a better job than
we ever will.
We already do it in slightly more subtle ways such as we consume protein supplements to
ensure we are meeting protein requirements. We use youtube channels and social media to get
workout ideas from other fitness professionals.
Use a personal trainer, buy that programme, buy some meals, go book a sports massage, go
see a physio. Do what you need to do. You do not have to do it all alone. It doesn’t make it any
less amazing that you are taking control of your health and fitness and investing it!

January Blues are here and so to cure them most of us book a holiday in the sun! ☀️I know I did!
Other events people are getting ready for are weddings and festivals. But one thing that creeps up on us about 6 weeks before is fitting into bikini/bridesmaid/wedding/festival outfits.
This is a prime time for people to drastically cut calories (600-1000 per day YIKES!), cut out carbs and exercise excessively. People will spend money on juice cleanse and skinny tea to cut weight. They lose weight (mostly water weight and glycogen) but then after the event they will gain the weight back plus more.
This has been shown in research that people who lose a high percentage of their body weight per week (more than 1%) in a short space of time are MORE LIKELY to gain the weight back plus more.
So what is the best way to lose weight? The best way to lose weight is to lose between 0.5~1% of your bodyweight per week. It is better to give yourself a longer time frame as it allows for less pressure on yourself to lose weight, which means you are more likely to make lifestyle changes. You will be able to build muscle and lose weight at the same time.
Focus on protein consumption. It has been shown that people who consume a high protein diet are less likely to gain fat. Why is this? Protein is filling and satisfying. It also requires a longer digestion process compared to carbs for example.
If you have any questions about changing your diet or if you are lost and aren’t sure where to start message me or email me. I am happy to give some advice or answer any questions. Also still have PT slots left if anyone is interested.loo @ Fitsio NI

So you've got your new gym shoes, your new trainers and you've probably eaten and drank waaaay too much. But that's okay everyone does it.
However lots of people then tend to swing 180 and OVERHAUL their entire life in January and I see 99% of people fail. This is because it is such a drastic change and people make themselves miserable and demotivated.
The key to changing your life is by doing it in small sustainable realistic steps. So if you want to lose 1 stone why don't you start cutting down on alcohol to only once a week or limiting yourself to 1 takeaway a month if that's you like.
Want to build more muscle? Start by hitting the gym once a week. Then twice a week once you find once a week easy. Then start to consume more protein through your food by adding a boiled egg to your breakfast routine or snacking on some yoghurt?
Change one small thing that you know you can do. Because success breeds success!
Message me if you want a physio/personal trainer to help guide you through these changes and take all the thinking and planning out of the way for you. Based in Bangor NI.
Try a noncommittal free session that includes a movement screening and a free workout!

Brilliant post by Rosie Physio on Twitter about why people feel more pain/discomfort at this time of year!
Pain is not directly related to injury or damage 🤯. Think of a papercut...it really hurts but it is only a shallow superficial cut. The amount of pain does not match the "damage".
Pain is heavily influenced by other factors such as our emotions and our environments. Sitting in prolonged postures, doing more activities than we are used to can all play a role in pain.
Keep moving and be aware that these things can trigger an increase in pain and discomfort.
