Hello! I'm Angharad 👋
I have a love-hate relationship with Instagram — not a fan of big tech if I'm honest. But living in Bangor, North Wales, it's been really useful for sharing what I do and keeping doing what I love. So here I am.
I use AI tools sometimes- Claude and Ecosia, trying to go for the more ethical options while knowing they're far from perfect and have a real environmental cost. They save me an enormous amount of time that I used to spend just getting text right. As a former teacher I wish I'd had them! I know AI puts people off, especially when we're looking for authenticity. That's fair- I just wanted to be honest rather than pretend otherwise.
Anyway. This post is actually about one of my favourite instruments. I'd love more- another planetary gong, some gorgeous alchemy bowls- but as a small business owner I'm mostly just keeping my head above water! One day 😄
The Venus Gong ✨
One of the instruments I use in my sound baths is a Paiste Venus planetary gong. Paiste are a Swiss- German maker with over a century of craft behind them. Their planetary gongs are tuned to the orbital frequencies of the planets using the Cosmic Octave- a formula by physicist Hans Cousto that translates each planet's orbit into audible sound. The Venus gong resonates at 221.23 Hz. When it sounds, you are literally hearing the orbit of a planet. 🪐
Across cultures, Venus represents love, beauty, harmony and the feminine- softness, receptivity, how we relate to ourselves and others. Its frequency connects to the heart centre. It doesn't crash and clear like a large gong. It holds you. Tenderly.
People describe a softening in the chest, a release of something they didn't know they were carrying. Some feel emotional in the best way. Some just feel warm and peaceful- like being wrapped in something kind. It's especially supportive when you've been giving a lot and haven't had space to receive.
The science on specific planetary frequencies is still emerging- but we know sound activates the parasympathetic nervous system and creates measurable changes in the body's stress response. The rest is experiential. And in every room I've played it in- it is real. 🙏
