Massive congratulations to Niamh who passed LD/ID OSCE first time on 25/02/26 💜💚

𝐍𝐌𝐂 𝐎𝐒𝐂𝐄 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩 - what does ongoing support and flexibility actually look like in reality? ⁣
⁣
For even my most basic NMC OSCE preparation and support package, I include ongoing, person-centred support and flexibility. ⁣
How does it help and why do I offer it? ⁣
⁣
• Feedback on all written work and practice recordings - this takes time but is worth every second. ⁣
⁣
Why? It allows me to assess progress and give personalised feedback which enables focus work on your individual, specific areas.⁣
⁣
Example - Today is a marking day and I will prioritise feedback for those who are sitting their exam soon, with everyone else knowing the timescale for when they will receive feedback on their work. ⁣
⁣
This feedback is given verbally, written or a combination of both and will depend on what works best for each learner. ⁣
⁣
• Ask me questions outside of online or face to face sessions - you receive an answer from an experienced educator who understands the exam. This reduces confusion, anxiety and doubts, which boosts confidence and competence. ⁣
⁣
Example - I have answered several questions this week from current learners and will continue to be available for them for support until passes are achieved. ⁣
⁣
• Pastoral support - Since 2019, I have supported over 450 nurses to OSCE success under a wide range of circumstances which gives me deep insight into the exam process plus much, much more. ⁣
⁣
You are not on your own - sometimes an overwhelming day can feel lighter after a chat or exam day is coming up and you need a motivational boost. ⁣
⁣
Example - this week, I have been in contact with nurses doing their exam this week and next. They are extremely well prepared and have been working hard for months.⁣
⁣
However, these pre exam check-ins are still important in case there are last minute questions. ⁣
⁣
• Flexibility - all my learners book their sessions in advance to suit their schedules. ⁣
⁣
However, sometimes life happens and our plans change. Offering flexible scheduling reduces stress and ensures nothing is missed. ⁣
⁣
Flexibility during sessions - As I offer individual (121) sessions, this means that I can tailor each session to the individual learner, rather than rushing onto the next topic before full understanding and homework completed in preparation. ⁣
⁣
Example 1 - a current learner had a scheduling issue this week. There was no drama, stress or missing the session, we simply rearranged. ⁣
⁣
Example 2 - a learner needed more time due to life circumstances. We scheduled a pause in sessions and will restart soon, so they don't get left behind or overwhelmed. ⁣
⁣
💡Ultimately, OSCE success will depend on the individual candidate, how they prepare and the work they put in. ⁣
⁣
🤝However, knowing that you have structured, ongoing support and flexibility can make the whole experience just that bit easier. ⁣
