A Met Office Amber warning for wind has been issued as Storm Amy will bring very strong winds and heavy rain for many in the north of the UK in the coming days.

Storm Amy is currently developing in the Atlantic and will bring disruptive wet and windy weather for much of Scotland, northwest England and northwest Wales from Friday afternoon and into Saturday.

An Amber warning for wind has been issued for northern and western parts of Scotland which comes into force from 1700 on Friday and will be active until 0900 on Saturday. The warning highlights a danger to life, the possibility of power cuts, travel disruption and particularly dangerous conditions near coasts.

Please take extra care when travelling.

Further to the recent National Patient Safety Alert regarding potential contamination of non-sterile alcohol-free skin cleansing wipes with Burkholderia bacteria, advice has been issued to the public to stop using non-sterile alcohol-free wipes for the treatment of injuries, wounds or on broken skin. They should also not be used for cleaning intravenous lines.

The advice is available from: Public advised to stop using certain non-sterile alcohol-free wipes. This lists four types of wipes which have been found to be contaminated, which may have been used for ‘skin cleansing’ and cleaning in or around wounds. These have been withdrawn from sale but may still be found in some first aid kits and in people’s homes. They are not routinely used in the NHS.

If people have these products, they are advised not to use them and to dispose of them in household waste as a precautionary measure.

The public is advised to check the label and only use wipes marked as ‘sterile’ on broken skin.

Due to risk of infection, non-sterile alcohol-free wipes are not appropriate for the treatment of injuries, wounds or on broken skin, nor for cleaning of intravenous lines.

Digitising Social Care have published new guidance on using AI in care delivery.

Many care providers already use AI in care delivery. This can include in:

- Sensor based technology and telecare
- Chat bots
- Facial recognition
- Data collection and analytics

The guidance gathers the findings of three meetings of care providers on best use of AI in care delivery.

These types of solutions can deliver improvements in the hands-on, immediate care to individuals in accommodation-based settings and can also deliver life-changing preventative and reactive care for people living in their own homes.

National Office in Wales publish first annual report
The National Office for Care and Support in Wales has published its first annual report. The report outlines the key work the office has undertaken over the last year with the aim to:

1. Support the Chief Social Care Officer for Wales.

2. Develop, implement and deliver the National Care and Support Service for Wales.

3. Implement and manage the National Commissioning Framework for Care and Support in Wales.
