Feeling very grateful for another wonderful experience facilitating laughter yoga sessions for AllSorts today. Such rich sessions with people beautifully demonstrating how to meet their laughter where it’s at.

📣 Announcement: The Mirror of Laughter - a tell and show🪞👀

I’m doing a tell and show about laughter next week as part of their WTF Thursdays community event series.

Thursday 19 October
7-8:45pm
Free, but booking required

I will share my somatic iteration of Laughter Yoga and some of The Mirror of Laughter author Alexander Kozintsev’s theories about humour and laughter, before performing an improvisation.

This special brew of participatory performance will be new and still bubbling. Expect a tempered exploration of the physiology, effects, and affect, of laughter.

No need to ‘be funny’, feel happy or have Laughter Yoga experience on arrival. A willingness to laugh is a plus but not essential. Exercises can be done seated or standing. You can also participate by spectating throughout if you prefer.

A structure for (invaluable) feedback and concept reflection will be set up at the end.

Have an access need you’d like to discuss or a question about the nature of the event? Feel free to DM or email me.

WTF Thursdays is a new space creating possibilities for community-building amongst artists. Each Thursday, CDS hands over the keys to the building for an artist to host an event in the spirit of low-stakes, DIY action.

Throwback to Laughter Bugs family laughter workshop & performance last September.

It was exciting to share this playful practice in a safe outdoor space and see familiar relationships animated with laughter as a formal vehicle into and outcome of play.

If anyone is looking for Easter activities in Leyton, East London, have just launched the Wee Movers Creative Easter School (4-7 April) exploring connections between movement and making.

'The week is inspired and led by some of the UKs most exciting artists from across dance, choreography and design. There are sessions on craft and design, a choreographer (and dance movement psychotherapist) who works with origami and dance, laughter yoga and lunch provided every day by Scottish Cafe Deeney's and lots more!'

I'm chuffed to be leading a Move To Amuse Ourselves session. I'll be drawing on all my laughter yoga tools plus creative movement scores.

If you are interested the full details are here: www.weemovers.co.uk/book/p/wee-movers-easter-creative
There are a limited number of bursary places being organised for local children whose parents cannot afford the cost of the Easter school.

Rage Is A Sane Reaction - a lab by Sanctuary on the Fault Line

From 8-10 Jan 2022, women dancers are gathering live & online for 3-days to reorient dance, through our rage, frustration & exquisite skill, back to its potency; to transform rage into a river, a gentle volcano, that can warm the hearts of others instead of reflecting inward & causing us harm.

I will be one of a group of facilitators & dancers gathering in person while others join online.

Dancers will experience class, workshops, talks, choreography & engage with live conversations & wild dance films.❤️‍🔥 Public can join the keynote talks, live conversations & films. 🎤📽️

>> ONLINE TICKETS available through LINKS IN BIO🎟

A(n abridged) message from - Dancer, Rolfer, caretaker & initiator

'“the part of you that is crying out, is the part that wants to live. . .when your world is burning down, getting hot is a sane reaction, but one in need of action, because your spirit needs protection, so gather up your sinew and gather up your faction, because hope is not a feeling, hope is an action” The Bengsons (music duo, USA)

Fellow women dancers, I have designed this lab, the second of its kind, to move us through a gateway. A gateway in a time of many crises. . .Because especially in times of crises, dance is a world building process, it is sacred neurological nourishment that moves us through territory that is impossible to move through alone . . .

We will spend 3 days together. We will cultivate space within and learn ways to move through furious & frustrated areas of our bodies through class assisted by Rolfing techniques, laughter practices [ ], creative process & meditation. We will listen to each other & to talks on: dance as neurological nourishment; dance as a vehicle for urgent messages; and the potency and function of feminine rage.

We will learn from Isadora Duncan and her Dance of the Furies & have space for our own creative process - to listen to the dances that are sparking within each of us & help each other bring these to gesture, so we can take these with us when we part.'

STARTING FROM WHERE YOU ARE

Setting mindful intentions through Yoga Flow & Restore

At New Year there can be pressure to make sweeping changes which don’t usually last. No matter where we want to go we can only start from where we are. This Flow & Restore Yoga gives space to welcome in 2022 in a different way.

Sarah will guide you in creating a sankalpa (intention set by the heart & mind), which allows you actively to work with & appreciate yourself through each step of a process. With clear-sighted compassion we will focus on & encourage the reflection & rest that all humans need in order to move towards acceptance & sustainable health habits.

BEFRIENDING YOUR BODY

Coming home to the sensory self through Mindful Movement & Creative Writing

Body positivity - in which we are encouraged to embrace all of ourselves without negativity - often seems like an impossible goal when we feel distanced from (or even disgusted by) our physical self. Body neutrality asks: if we remove ideas of ‘positive’ & ‘negative’ how might we relate to our bodies in a different way?

In this unique workshop we will bring ourselves back to the experience of moving, noticing the sensations, feelings, memories, & images it provokes. We will return to a child-like experience of moving from gentle curiosity. Rather than interrogating our feelings about our body, we offer ourselves the opportunity to connect to our feelings through our body.

As we shift between moving & free writing, we'll notice: what is your inner dialogue? How might you speak with yourself in the way you might speak to a beloved friend?

EMBODYING HAPPINESS

Connecting Feldenkrais, Laughter Yoga, & the Neuroscience of Happiness

Join us on a radical journey to reconnect our minds & bodies, & discover how movement is the unlikely key to unlocking happiness in our stressed-out, unhappy world. In this unique workshop experience we will uncover how mindful movement facilitates changes in the brain through neuroplasticity. You will be guided through a fun journey of practical movement explorations in which we will discover how laughter can be practised & brought into our lives by choice, as we remember together what it feels like to play freely & become lighthearted, spontaneous, & creative. By moving with awareness & choosing to laugh you can expand your self-image & discover the potential for new ways of being that did not previously seem possible.

Co-facilitators Kate & Flora will share from their own experience how opening the door to laughter & mindful movement is a valuable self-care practice that can help you cultivate happiness in the present moment. Not when you have more money, not when your work is done, & not when this crazy pandemic finally ends. It will no longer be an out-of-reach, fantastical goal, but rather a grounded & surprisingly accessible embodied state. A happier life is waiting for you, exactly as you are.

These workshops are open to both complete beginners & those with more experience of movement practice.
