We welcomed the fabulous Alex Rae Jordan into our home to entertain our residents with an afternoon of war time classics including plenty of sing along favourites as we carried on with our remembrance day show of support, you could clearly see how much the mix of well known songs that alex had put together in her set brought so many memories to our residents, and you could clearly see how much comfort they brought too as they sang along, and afterwards receiving some lovely feedback on how much they had personally enjoyed, A big thankyou alex, we can't wait to welcome you back in the new year🙂

What a lovely touching morning we had remembering our veteran heros, we are so privileged to be apart of it...🥰

Today was the 3rd year of laying a wreath at the Hoyland cenotaph. This year, staff assisted Charlie, Jack and Sheila to lay the wreath on behalf of all residents past and present, and all colleagues at Hoyland Hall Care Home.

Just to show a small insight as to why this is such a poignant reminder of why we support our residents to be able to be a part of Remembrance Day in this way…

As the service came to an end, Charlie emotionally said “Thank you for this ‘babby’, it was very moving, it means a lot to me, my dad served in the war, he was one of the lucky ones - he made it home”

Jack, proudly served in the Royal Navy for 25 years and today he was able to see how his local community respect and honour the service he and all he served with gave to our country.

And Sheila, who tells me she usually watches the service on the telly, and how lovely it was to come to the Cenotaph today.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun,
and in the morning,

We will remember them🎖🫡❤️

We had such a lovely time supporting at Hoyland Tesco this week with a few of our lovely residents jack, charlie and sheila, we are so grateful for the kind generosity that our community showed towards such an amazing event and keeping the memory alive, Also just want to say thankyou to vicky at the poppy appeal hoyland for allowing us to take part🥰

Every year people across the UK come together to remember those who have died in wars across the world.

Remembrance Day marks the day World War One ended - at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918. It is also known as Armistice Day.

Ceremonies also take place on the second Sunday in November - this is known as Remembrance Sunday.

This year Remembrance Sunday falls on 9th November 2025

A few of our lovely residents joined me to carry out a few bonfire night/rememberence day themed activities, it's so lovely to see our Alice in attendance once again, and she completed such lovely colouring, our jack and rose making firework themed pictures using p.v.a glue, salt and glitter, along with added personal themed name cards, and our sheila choosing to colour poppy themed book marks, and i suggested laminating them to protect the beautiful colours, so she could use to insert in her books from our local libary that she had loaned, she also gifted one each to our home manager Gill and deputy manager Hayley, a lovely act of kindness that sheila performed🥰, our Alice i captured after her pamper session with our resident hairdresser✂️
And over the weekend I had been busy making parkin and ginger cake for our residents to hopefully enjoy, along with the flapjack that jack and sheila had both made on Tuesday, and what better hug in a mug to wash it down with than a lovely hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows☕️, they said it was a lovely treat🙂,i had a lovely chat with our Dorothy too and I couldn't help but notice her beautiful bouquet of flowers💐that had been gifted from her lovely granddaughter laura on her home visit on monday, and lastly one of our home cook Carol's lovely tray bakes
