Patients registered with a Barnsley GP can now access free Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) appointments at Specsavers Barnsley, helping to provide quicker care for urgent eye problems closer to home.

The service supports people experiencing recent or sudden eye conditions, including red or painful eyes, flashes and floaters, and other acute concerns. As part of this service, same day foreign body removals are now available where clinically appropriate.

We're proud to celebrate our Emergency Department who have received a Bronze award from the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s GreenED programme.

The award recognises the department’s work to reduce its impact on the environment while continuing to provide safe, high‑quality care for patients. It also supports the NHS’s wider aim to reduce carbon emissions 👏
