Health Coaching gives me such a ‘glow!’ Can’t you tell by my cheeks today! 🔥 Just started 20 new people off on their Diabetes Prevention journey.
Today we touched on some of the serious complications of prolonged high blood glucose, which damages blood vessels throughout the body. When I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes aged 18 I lived in fear, bombarded with constant warnings of a bleak longterm outcome plagued with blindness, limb amputations, kidney failure, heart disease and stroke. It can be a terrifying prospect BUT these days I use this knowledge as extra incentive to do all I can on a daily basis to live a lifestyle and eat a nutrient rich diet that helps me maintain stable blood glucose levels as much as possible and ward these complications off. Today I passed on that message of hope to this group of people so they could leave feeling empowered and optimistic about their future, not scared of it, knowing that the power to make small but impactful changes is in their own hands 💚

Having just spent the morning health coaching a lovely group of people and discussing the benefits of regular eating for blood glucose control, energy levels, mood, appetite and concentration (to name just a few) I’m pleased to say I’m practising what I preach. Monday’s dinner of Hearty Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash Soup was reheated for today’s lunch and transported with me in a flask in my car due to the timing of the session to avoid low blood glucose levels, hunger, cravings and subsequent poor food choices! I chose not to leave it to chance and am glad I put in the thought and prior effort now.
No roller coaster blood glucose for me this afternoon thank you very much. Just a satisfying feeling of fullness, satiation, a clear head and plenty of energy 🙌🏻💚

I’m very lucky that my working day can include a short walk, a picnic lunch with a view, fresh air, calmness and great company setting me up for a productive afternoon, balanced blood glucose and energy. If you are stuck indoors or at work, could you stretch or move your body in some way, step outside and breathe deeply for a few minutes, chat and laugh with a colleague or simply put work aside for a restful lunch break? Small consistent healthful habits built into your day can really make a big difference to overall health and well-being 💚

Wish I could just throw my purse, phone and lippy in a bag and be off on my day out but, in reality, my checklist before leaving the house goes like this…

✅Pod change so I have enough fresh insulin for the small matter of keeping me alive today and to bolus for the yummy food and drink stops planned!
✅PDM to keep an eye on blood glucose readings and to deliver background insulin constantly all day long plus extra when I eat
✅Spare blood testing kit including lancets, blood test strips and machine, in case my sensor stops working/rips off and I need to do a finger prick blood test
✅Back up insulin injection pens x2 and a handful of needles in case of pod failure or the cannula becoming dislodged
✅New insulin vial in a keep cool bag
✅Hypo treatments to deal quickly with any unexpected low blood glucose levels so they don’t spoil my day
✅Snacks in case food options out and about aren’t great and I need a quick glucose lift
A day out with Type 1 Diabetes requires forward thinking and preparation…plus a BIG bag!!!

Haven’t massaged Kale for a long time but it was quite therapeutic 💚 the vivid green brought some much needed colour into this dark, wintry evening. Combined with avocado, sourdough, sunflower seeds and a creamy cashew and lemon dressing served alongside some salmon, this meal will fill me up with satisfying fibre, protein and essential fats to ensure my blood glucose and my mood stay on an even keel. Bon apetit 👌🏻

A nourishing Sunday PAUSE with a Zen Adaptogen Coffee and a piece of Raw Living Chocolate to raise my vibrations 🍄‍🟫🍄 with additional mushroom magic!

Living with diabetes, consciously making good choices for blood glucose regulation, it’s a no brainer for me to treat myself to a satisfying small amount of really good quality chocolate with health benefits than to mindlessly shovel in larger quantities of artificially sweetened ‘diabetic’ chocolate devoid of any goodness! If you are looking to achieve blood sugar balance you don’t have to give up chocolate, just make your choice wisely, without guilt and thoroughly enjoy it as part of a healthful, sustainable lifestyle 🍫☕️💚

🌧️☔️ The only windy, rainy day of the week calls for a bit of creamy, spicy, gingery, warming deliciousness this teatime! Crammed with satiating fibre, with a side of tender-stem broccoli, this dish will keep us feeling full and cosy all evening! A change in the weather from tomorrow might call for cooling, refreshing, interesting salads from here on in! ☀️🙌🏻

So tonight’s tea did not get the welcoming reception I had hoped for…but not a total disaster either 🙌🏻 9yr old asked “What’s for tea?” My reply “I’ve made a pasta dish.” Daughter “Oh I hate it when you say you’ve made a pasta DISH!” (Usually means I’ve added a nutritious twist to it!)“Why can’t we just have normal pasta?” Cue some distasteful faces as she ate it BUT she did eat a small portion! It helped when I explained all our family meal choices I make with their best interests at heart and that I’m trying to help her fuel her body to be a brilliant gymnast, for her energy and mood and to feed those friendly gut bacteria with benefits we always talk about. 13 yr old hungry after her little job said “good” when asked for her verdict, plus “I like pasta, I like pesto!” 😋 I’d say that’s a mealtime win overall. Might not get on the weekly meal plan but one to pop in every now and then for variety. Added bonus is I have plenty leftover for work lunch tomorrow and Orzo heats up so much better than other pastas 👍🏻💚 🌈

“Mum, Dad…what’s for tea?” our young people are asking up and down the country right about now! Often tired from working all day ourselves, decision fatigue sets in as we scan the cupboards and fridge to see what we can put together that resembles some kind of a nutritious meal for the family. With a little forward planning and intentional shopping with a list, it can help ease the pressure of daily meal time decisions and prep.
Today I’ve come home and with 10 mins prep I’m whizzing up a sauce to mix with Orzo pasta that is nutrient dense, high in essential fats and protein, antioxidant rich, full of fibre (5 + plants) and hopefully will be as delicious as it smells with all the fresh Basil going in. Bean Pesto Orzo, please be a family hit as you are super quick and easy to make 🙏🏻💚🤞🏻

Fuelling my own flow today and it feels good! An afternoon in my garden, digging and planting, hands in the earth, petals in the breeze, colourful displays of unpretentious blooms, birds, Sansa’s peaceful presence by my side…and a cuppa and biscuit as I sit appreciating it all of course! 💚🦋🌺🐶🐕🫖
