💜 World Pancreatic Cancer Day - Standing Together in South Cumbria

Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day, a moment to raise awareness of a disease that affects not only those diagnosed but also the families and loved ones who support them through every step.

We’ve been in touch with Barrow Town Council and Ulverston Town Council, who have confirmed that Barrow Town Hall clock and Sir John Barrow Monument will be lit purple tonight as part of the campaign. You may see other landmarks or homes across South Cumbria glowing purple too, each one a reminder of the lives affected and the importance of early awareness.

At Workwell South Cumbria, we support people facing health-related barriers to work, and we understand how deeply serious illness can impact whole families. Today, we’re thinking of everyone touched by pancreatic cancer - those fighting, those we’ve lost, and the families who carry their stories.

Today we attended 'Flourish- A Work & Health Event' hosted by Westmorland and Furness Council and Barrow Rising. It was lovely to speak to other providers in the area and spread the word about how WorkWell South Cumbria can support them and their service users. Thank you for having us!

It's World Kindness Day 🌸

World Kindness Day first started in 1998 by the 'World Kindness Movement', the main goal was to inspire individuals and nations to create a kinder world.

A simple act of kindness could include:

✨️ Holding the door open for someone
✨️ Helping a colleague or neighbour
✨️ Offering a smile to a stranger

Today we remember that kindness goes both ways, and we must take time to be kind to ourselves as well- take time to enjoy a break, read a book or do something you enjoy.

Studies show that acts of kindness can even boost your immune system, reduce stress, give you energy and they can also be good for your heart.

The Office for National Statistics reports that 15 communities in the borough of Barrow are in the 20% most income deprived in England.

The team at WorkWell South Cumbria are all registered with The Trussell Trust and can issue Foodbank vouchers for any of our participants who may benefit from some additional support.

Participants who receive support from the Foodbank may also be able to access support to top up gas and electricity meters too 💡

International Stress Awareness week is well underway, the theme this year is 'Optimising Employee Wellbeing through Strategic Stress Management'.

Did you know that in 2023/24:

✨️There were 776,000 cases of work-related stress, anxiety or depression.

✨️Stress, anxiety and depression accounted for 46% of all work-related ill-health causes

✨️The main factors for causing work-related stress, depression or anxiety include demands of the job, work relationships, lack of information and lack of support.

If you or someone you know is struggling with work related stress, WorkWell South Cumbria are here to help. Our partners at Mind in Furness have some fantastic resources through their 'guided self-help' programme, including support with managing workplace stress.
