Stop creating goals, when we’re still in midwinter!!
I know — it’s January, the calendar flipped, and suddenly the pressure is on to rebrand your entire life. New goals, new habits, new energy, new you....
But here’s the honest truth (from science and the therapy room):
Your body did not get the memo.
🧠 Biologically, midwinter is a low-energy season.
Shorter daylight hours = reduced serotonin.
Cold temperatures = energy conserved, not expended.
Your nervous system is wired to slow down, not surge forward.
Yet culturally, we expect ourselves to wake up on January 1st feeling motivated, focused, and ready to dominate the year. When that doesn’t happen, we label ourselves as lazy, unmotivated, or “already failing”.
Nothing is wrong with you.
You’re responding appropriately to winter.
As an integrative therapist, I see this pattern every year:
• People forcing goals from a depleted state
• Burning willpower instead of building capacity
• Confusing pressure with progress
⚠️ Pushing in midwinter doesn’t create sustainable change — it creates nervous system fatigue and that makes us burnt out, unwell and frustrated.
What if January wasn’t for initiating, but for listening?
What if this season was about:
• Restoring energy
• Letting your body catch up
• Noticing what feels heavy vs what feels nourishing
• Pacing yourself instead of performing for an imaginary timeline
🌱 Real growth doesn’t start with force — it starts with capacity.
And capacity is built through rest, rhythm, and regulation.
There will be a time for goals babes!
There will be a time for action...
But midwinter is asking for something different!
Slow down.
Warm up.
Listen inward.
You’re not behind.
You’re seasonal.
