People living in the Vale of Glamorgan can now borrow blood pressure monitors from community libraries and hubs.

In the same way as library card holders can borrow books and other resources from facilities, members of the public can now take advantage of the new loan scheme that will allow them to keep track of their blood pressure at home.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council worked in partnership with the Cardiff and Vale Local Public Health Team and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board to provide the scheme, delivering activity to help reduce health inequalities.

To find out more please click the link to the full article below.

There are 2 ways you can borrow a monitor from a library/ hub:

Use the online library catalogue:
You can see availability and reserve a blood pressure monitor online through our Online Catalogue. We will let you know when you can collect this from your local Hub or library. https://www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/en/enjoying/Libraries/Online%20Catalogue.aspx

Visit your local Hub:
You can visit Your Local Library and speak to a member of staff. https://www.valeofglamorgan.gov.uk/en/enjoying/Libraries/Find-Your-Local-Library.aspx

You must be a member of the library to borrow a blood pressure monitor.

We have been having trouble with our urine sample bottles, resulting in patients having to re-submit samples.

If you receive a text/letter asking for a repeat test, this is likely the reason.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Our Urgent and Emergency care services are incredibly busy. This has significantly reduced the number of beds available to treat patients requiring care.

Our healthcare colleagues are extremely stretched and under considerable pressure.

How you can help:
➡️ Please only attend the Emergency Unit in a life-threatening medical emergency or major trauma. If you’re unsure what care you need, NHS 111 Wales can offer 24/7 healthcare advice online or over the phone. Call 111 or visit 111.wales.nhs.uk.

➡️When treatment is complete and it’s safe to leave hospital, going home can make a real difference to someone’s recovery. If you have a loved one in hospital, help support their timely discharge from hospital by:
-Asking healthcare teams about their discharge plans.
-Helping to arrange transport home.
-Providing suitable clothing and footwear.
-Ensuring that they have a key to their home, or someone is available to let them in.

Supporting a safe return home also helps healthcare staff who are working under additional pressure.

Please share with people in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Help us keep our patients, colleagues and services safe. Thank you.
