Welcome to Spontaneous Art Therapy a page devoted to the arts and positivity! What is a Spontaneous Painting session? Well, by using only our left hand to paint with, we activate the right hemisphere of our brain - the emotional, non-verbal, intuitive and creative side of the brain. It guides our thoughts and behaviour outside our awareness. Listening to loud emotionally evocative music whilst painting transports us to an alternate state of mind. People can experience being able to identify and regulate their emotions, articulate them more clearly and also bring repressed emotions and memories from the subconscious mind. This brings an awareness to the unity of the mind and body. After the painting is complete you are asked to write and talk about your art work - thus communicating between the two hemispheres of the brain. This helps to build meaning and self awareness. You will eventually find yourself automatically talking and being able to label your emotions, which reduces stress and increases self esteem. Art therapy is considered a safe, enriching environment that promotes social and emotional development. The art work you produce is a representation of the inner and outer worlds, it connects the mind and body - which contributes to feelings of control. Even though the visual images may awaken fear responses, art therapy can provide a safe place to relieve the fear arousing emotions by pairing it with a positive sensory experience. Sessions with me take around 2 hours from start to finish.... please message me for more details.
