This World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, we’re reminding everyone that proper handwashing is your first line of defence against infections and helps reduce the need for antibiotics.

🧼 Follow the 7 Steps of Handwashing:
1️⃣ Palm to palm
2️⃣ Back of hands
3️⃣ Between fingers (one hand)
4️⃣ Between fingers (the other hand)
5️⃣ Thumbs
6️⃣ Fingertips
7️⃣ Wrists

💡Clean hands = fewer infections = less antibiotic use.

This week is World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week 💊 running from 18–24 November.

This global campaign urges us all to “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future”—a call echoing across human, animal, and environmental health sectors.

🔬 Why it matters:
Antimicrobials—like antibiotics—are life-saving medicines. But when they're overused or misused, drug-resistant superbugs emerge, making common infections harder or even impossible to treat, endangering routine care like surgeries and cancer treatments.

👪 What we can all do:
- Only use antibiotics when prescribed by a qualified clinician.
- Complete the full course, even if you feel better.
- Never share your medication or use leftover antibiotics.
- Practice good hygiene—handwashing and vaccination help prevent infections.

Let's work together to keep antibiotics effective—for you, your family, and future generations.

With temperatures starting to drop this week, make sure that you stay warm safely:

❄️ If you use an electric heater or electric blanket, plug them into the wall socket rather than an extension cable
❄️ Always use the correct fuel on a log burner or open fire if you have one
❄️ Keep material items like clothing, blankets and curtains away from open flames
❄️ Don’t use camping stoves or outdoor heaters indoors
❄️ Make sure all electrical items are turned off and open flames are appropriately extinguished before going to bed
❄️ Check that your smoke alarms are working
