*** Your power shouldn’t come from your shoulders, it should flow through them ***

Using good body mechanics allows you to generate power from your legs and trunk so your shoulders do not have to do all the work.

Your shoulders should transmit power from your body to your arms while staying relaxed. Over-relying on them can lead to strain and fatigue over time.

Sometimes all it takes is one shift to completely change how you work ✨

“An inspiring start to the hands free training that is going to extend my massage practice.”

Have you ever had a massage and the therapist was working so fast you felt your pulse rise?

I have!

And last week, during the first 2 days of our Advanced Training, we introduced the idea of working slowly and it became a hot topic of conversation, as it always does.

One of the most powerful shifts you can make while you are massaging is to slow down. The benefits are for you and your clients. And to name but a few…

✨ For your client:
When you work slowly, their nervous system has time to settle and receive. A slow pace can build trust. Their breathing will deepen and muscles can begin to soften rather than be guarded against speedy massage. Instead of bracing against your touch, their body starts to receive it.

Massage is a conversation between your hands/forearms/intuition and their bodies/minds. If you are working too quickly you will not be able to feel what the body is trying to tell you.

✨ For you:
To work smarter, slowing down your massage is one of your first ports of call. You use less effort, feel more and work with intention instead of unconsciously flying around the body. Your hands/body will last longer. And your treatments become more precise, more intuitive and more effective. You won’t feel so drained at the end of the day. Slowing down allows time for you to check in with YOUR body and make subtle adjustments to how you are working to protect your body. It gives you time to check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Slow down and feel more.

💬 I’m curious: what changes do you notice, for yourself or your clients, when you consciously slow your pace down?

*** Applying pressure in massage puts a lot of demand on your body. ***

New therapists often rely solely on their shoulders and upper body strength, which can strain them over time. Using your whole body; legs, hips, and trunk, helps take the pressure off your shoulders and keeps your massage powerful.

Growth starts with awareness ✨

“The start of the course has been incredibly inspiring, I’ve already felt very supported and encouraged. I know there’s still a lot to learn, but I’m much more aware of my posture now. The hands-free massage has been a delight, and we’ve only just begun to explore it.”

Starting something new can feel uncomfortable, but that’s where the growth happens ✨

“I thought doing hands-free would be just about using forearms, I couldn't imagine there'd be so much to it. It feels like a whole new way of working, and my body and my clients are already feeling the difference. I'm so glad to be on the training, and so excited to learn more.”

So proud of everyone who showed up, leaned in and trusted the process 👏

First segment of Advanced Training wrapped and this is the kind of feedback that makes it all worth it ✨

“I am so excited to have started the Hands Free Massage with lovely Leora. She is so warm, welcoming and encouraging, quickly helping everyone feel comfortable. I know letting go of old habits is going to be tricky, but worth it and I believe in the process. Can’t wait for our next session!”

Building emotional foundations that last a lifetime 🌳

A standout moment from my time at the Sydney MBS Festival (a few years back) was meeting the brilliant Heather J. Ray. As an author dedicated to youth wellbeing, Heather has created a remarkable series of books and workbooks that tackle the "big" topics of mindfulness and emotional understanding.

These resources are designed specifically for kids and teens, helping them navigate their internal world with grace. In a fast-paced world, giving youngsters the vocabulary to express their emotions is one of the greatest gifts for their personal development.

If you are looking to support the mental wellbeing of a young person in your life, Heather’s work is an essential resource.
