Have you ever had a massage and the therapist was working so fast you felt your pulse rise?
I have!
And last week, during the first 2 days of our Advanced Training, we introduced the idea of working slowly and it became a hot topic of conversation, as it always does.
One of the most powerful shifts you can make while you are massaging is to slow down. The benefits are for you and your clients. And to name but a few…
✨ For your client:
When you work slowly, their nervous system has time to settle and receive. A slow pace can build trust. Their breathing will deepen and muscles can begin to soften rather than be guarded against speedy massage. Instead of bracing against your touch, their body starts to receive it.
Massage is a conversation between your hands/forearms/intuition and their bodies/minds. If you are working too quickly you will not be able to feel what the body is trying to tell you.
✨ For you:
To work smarter, slowing down your massage is one of your first ports of call. You use less effort, feel more and work with intention instead of unconsciously flying around the body. Your hands/body will last longer. And your treatments become more precise, more intuitive and more effective. You won’t feel so drained at the end of the day. Slowing down allows time for you to check in with YOUR body and make subtle adjustments to how you are working to protect your body. It gives you time to check yourself before you wreck yourself.
Slow down and feel more.
💬 I’m curious: what changes do you notice, for yourself or your clients, when you consciously slow your pace down?
