For our final student volunteer focus this week, meet Keyuri, a penultimate-year Business student at the University of Bath .

Keyuri began volunteering with ReMind UK at our Chat, Make and Move sessions simply to try something new, and quickly found it to be a fulfilling and rewarding experience 💜

What started as a new opportunity soon became a positive escape from studies, never feeling like a chore.

"I love volunteering with ReMind UK, I've made some great friendships through it and I get to learn so much from supporting the people but also from the people directly..."

Inspired to try something new and support those living with dementia too? Please get in touch 👉https://www.reminduk.org/remind-uk-volunteering/

As we continue our Student Volunteering Week spotlights, we’re celebrating all the students who volunteer with ReMind UK... and sometimes, those journeys come full circle💫

Stuti volunteered with ReMind UK in 2024 while completing her MSc in Applied Clinical Psychology at the University of Bath , recognising that the charity’s work closely reflected her interests, particularly in older person care.

“I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at ReMind UK’s Chat, Make & Move sessions during my studies. It was a rewarding opportunity to give back, meet new people and learn from new experiences."

As she finished her master’s, Stuti spotted a vacancy within our psychology team... and the rest is history! She is now a valued member of ReMind UK staff, continuing to make a difference in dementia care and support 💜

You never know where a volunteering journey might lead!

As part of Student Volunteering Week, we’re celebrating some of our fantastic student volunteers 🎉

Meet Ellis, a second-year Economics student at the University of Bath.

Ellis volunteers with ReMind UK at our wellbeing courses, inspired by his late grandad’s dementia diagnosis and the dedication of care staff who supported him.

Alongside his studies, part-time work and tutoring, Ellis makes time to volunteer... something he really enjoys.

"I find it as a nice way to distract myself from the stresses of my studies and focus on getting to know the people who attend the sessions."

We’re so grateful for Ellis and all our amazing student volunteers who help make our interventions possible 💜 If you’re interested in giving a few hours of your time, we’d love to hear from you - https://www.reminduk.org/remind-uk-volunteering/

Have your say 📢

Have you been affected by dementia? Perhaps you have experience of living with dementia or caring for someone with a memory condition? If so, ReMind UK would love to hear from you.

By joining the Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP), you will help ensure lived experience is at the heart of everything we do 💜

As a LEAP member, you will be contacted a few times a year and asked to share your thoughts on various areas of ReMind UK’s work, with links into wider dementia projects.

Most involvement is online, with occasional optional in-person meetups for those who live locally.

Your experience matters! You can help get ahead of dementia by sharing your experience and helping to shape support for people living with dementia and their families.

Why brain health can’t wait! Anna's story 💜

Seeing both of her parents live with dementia has changed how Anna Mountford thinks about her own brain health.

Now 50 and living with Type 1 diabetes, Anna is taking proactive steps in midlife to reduce her future risk, from staying active and well hydrated to making small lifestyle changes that support long-term brain health.

“If we can give people access to good information early, we have a much better chance of supporting brain health throughout life.”

That’s why Remind UK’s new Brain Health Clinic matters. It offers specialist support and evidence-based guidance to help people understand their personal risk and take action early.

What is Cognitive Stimulation Therapy?

ReMind UK is offering free Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) as part of this year's support programme.

CST is an evidence-based psychological intervention for people recently diagnosed with early-stage dementia. It has been shown to enhance cognition and quality of life with benefits similar to medication, but without the risk of side effects. It is also the only non-pharmaceutical therapy endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Each course involves seven weekly sessions in a small, supportive group setting.

You can find out more about CST and express your interest on our website - https://www.reminduk.org/get-support/cognitive-stimulation-therapy/

Meet Sarah, a retired mental health nurse from Bath.

After seeing the impact of dementia first-hand, Sarah wanted to focus on her brain health as much as her physical health in retirement.

Through ReMind UK’s Brain Health Clinic, she received a personalised assessment and simple lifestyle guidance to help reduce her future dementia risk.

“I am very conscious of my brain health and staying healthy. The clinic helped me understand what my dementia risk is now and how I can reduce it for the future... Knowledge is power.”

💜Thank you 💜

An incredible group of students from Bath University has gone above and beyond to help people live well with dementia - from selling matcha drinks and doing pull-ups for donations, to taking on an extraordinary 100km cross-border walk from France to the Netherlands. Read their full story - https://bit.ly/4qnFfhH

Almost £800 has been raised so far, and they’re not done yet! Some of the team will soon be running the Bath Half Marathon to push their fundraising even further.

With over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia, efforts like these help fund early diagnosis, life-changing research and essential services.

Thank you for your dedication and hard work! We’re so grateful to have you supporting ReMind UK 💜
