Online yoga has its place but there’s something special about meeting in person.
Meeting in real life feels to me like a richer experience. It’s the community, the shared energy in the room, the incidental conversations before and after practice and even the walk there and back. I’ve just rewritten the bio for my website so thought I share here too:

My teaching is inspired by the ancient wisdom of yoga and mindfulness but informed by the latest movement and psychological science. Whether it’s through a weekly yoga class, a Thai yoga massage treatment or a longer residential retreat, my aspiration is to help people find more peace in an increasingly chaotic world.

All of the healing modalities I work with: movement, meditation, relaxation, massage; offer opportunities to soothe the nervous system, cultivate compassionate awareness, reduce stress and tension, and enhance self knowledge and insight. Cultivating this kind of conscious relating, both to ourselves and others, is the thread that runs through everything I do, professionally.

I’ve been teaching for more than fourteen years and have completed a plethora of trainings during this time. Including:

500-hour Diploma in Teaching Yoga - The British Wheel of Yoga.

2 year Training in Teaching Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy - Oxford Mindfulness Foundation

100 hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training - Yumu

Diploma in Thai Yoga Massage (Practitioner Level) - The School of Thai Yoga Massage

Foundation course in Counselling and Psychotherapy (currently in progess) - BCPC

In addition to the above, I’ve also completed further trainings in: anatomy and physiology, Yoga Nidra, the art of sequencing, crystal bowl sound healing, somatic movement and many more.

I’ve also attended a number of retreats as part of my on going personal and professional development. Some of these have been silent meditation retreats, others have been more focused on yoga. All of these experiences inform what I practise and what I teach. This cycle of learning, practising, reflecting and teaching is a constantly evolving process which shifts and changes all the time with my own development.

Before moving to Bath where I now live with my husband and two daughters, I enjoyed two previous careers in London. The first in media sales and the second as a primary school teacher.

Ruth Timms Yoga

Mindfulness is at the heart of every yoga class I teach and every Thai yoga massage treatment I give. Making sure my classes enable students to feel both challenged and completely at ease is very important to me. My rigorous training and experience has taught me that every posture can be modified or adapted to suit the individual.

The two main styles of yoga I teach are Dynamic Flow, which is a stronger and more energetic practice and Yin, which is cooling, calming and meditative. Over the years I have learned that regularly practising both ‘yang’ and ‘yin' styles brings with it a feeling of inner balance and spaciousness where you can feel both strong and flexible as well as calm and energised.

I have had the privilege to train with many wonderful teachers including Mary Mackie and Lesley Isaacson (500 hr Dip. The British Wheel of Yoga), Kira Balaskas (Practitioner Dip. The School of Thai Yoga Masssage) and TJ Maher (100 hr Yin Yoga Teacher Training with Yujmu).

I teach private clients, classes, workshops and run retreats in and around the Bath and Bristol area. If you’d like to talk to me about yoga or Thai massage, please feel free to get in touch.
