Inflammation: What if it's good? 🤔

There are conditions where inflammation can get out of hand and make our lives difficult, and it can be a negative if chronically raised, but following acute tissue injury this isn't always the case.

Post injury it is designed to:
✔ Protect
✔ Clean up damage
✔ Start repair
✔ Restore function

All of these are GOOD things we need to get better.

Knowing when and how to push the boundaries post injury is where we come in.

Understanding this, alongside I understanding the ideas, concerns and expectations of the person we are treating is very important.

Sometimes, it's the simple understanding that helps.

Other times it's more complex.
..That's the challenge of treating people because we are all unique.

Inflammation: What if it's good? 🤔

There are conditions where inflammation can get out of hand and make our lives difficult, and it can be a negative if chronically raised, but following acute tissue injury this isn't always the case.

🧘‍♀️Stretching: Is there any point?

Well,..... It depends.

What's the goal?
Is it relaxation, improving range post surgery or after acute injury, or relieving a feeling of stiffness? Then Carry on.

Anything else; strength, function, fitness, muscle length, then the research doesn't back it in comparison with strength and cardiovascular training.

If you don't have time, don't waste your time with passive stretching alone because it isn't making any meaningful long term changes that will impact on your recovery goals.

🤕 Pain: It's Personal 👥

⚠️ Social media is littered with the best exercise for X. You have a weak rotator cuff? Then do this, Back Pain? The core's the one.

The truth is so different.

🧠 This fantastic infographic from highlights the difficulties we have in correlating a diagnosis as the cause of that person's pain.

🤔 If we find so many tissue changes in those without pain, how can we say it is the cause when found with 100% certainty?

The truth is we can't. Some conditions make diagnosis easier as they have a particular pattern and treatment but many do not.

Even the same condition can present in many different ways and that's because we are all different and we are surrounded by different environments and stressors.

🎤This is why we talk about generic plans needing to go into the bin. Each person is different, each person is unique and each person deserves to be guided in their own way.

That's where we specialise. We treat you as you and develop a way forward out of the darkness that helps you develop. No matter the cause, no matter the condition.

💪It's often not motivation holding you back...

🔉Motivation fluctuates during rehabilitation, and throughout life. It shouldn't be the primary driver for helping you to get to where you go because it's a feeling.

Just like:
* pain
* happiness
* sadness..it can wax and wane and seem slightly out of your control.

💪Discipline in rehab gets the job done. Strength, flexibility, pain, and psychological changes post injury take time and consistent habits.

📈 Habits need to be sustainable.
Habits are hard to form when you don't have clarity or guidance.

💁🆘 That's where we come in.
Programmes that work for you, and around you.
If you don't have 30 minutes then a 1 hour programme won't work for you.

The right guidance should give simplicity, effectiveness, reasoning and goal setting to enhance discipline.
