Yoga for Trauma workshop, 8-10 July 2022 at Battle Ashram UK

This is an informal experience sharing workshop for those wishing to teach yoga to refugees or other trauma survivors.

Since 2017, we have been growing a community of yoga teachers and psychotherapists who are interested in teaching yoga to refugees or in deepening their understanding of how trauma effects our body and mind, and how to restore wellbeing, individually and collectively through the tools of yoga.

The aim of the 8-10 July weekend is to continue developing our understanding and sharing experiences about teaching yoga practices in a manner appropriate to refugees and other trauma survivors. It will be an informal weekend, with practical asana, pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation sessions, as well as facilitated group discussions on topics such as the following:

Understanding the neuroscience of trauma recovery
Learning about teaching yoga to people with trauma
Practising yoga to free up the body, the breath and emotions from tensions
Orienting to presence and safety in the here and now
As part of the weekend, there will also be karma yoga (including preparing meals together), and a Mahamrityunjaya havan with mantra chanting. The contribution for the weekend is £100 to cover simple accommodation and meals. We will be starting at 10am on Saturday 9 July and concluding by 4pm on Sunday 10 July. Those who would like to arrive on the evening of Friday 8 July are welcome to do so at an additional cost of £30.

We have limited spaces at the Patanjali Centre – so let us know soon if you would like to attend.

Facilitators: Kerry Gallagher (Katyayani), Minna Jarvenpaa (Mantramala) and Yanar Alkayat
Location: Patanjali Yoga Centre, near Battle
Date and time: from 10am on Saturday, 9 July, to 4pm on Sunday, 10 July 2022
Cost: £100 to cover simple accommodation and meals
