🚧🚧 A49 Bayston Hill Works Update 🚧🚧

To help reduce disruption for residents and road users, National Highways and Cadent Gas are working together to coordinate improvements along the A49 through Bayston Hill.

Cadent Gas are replacing gas mains before National Highways completes the road resurfacing. Doing the work together helps avoid digging the road up twice.

Cadent Gas Works Timeline - Works are due to start Monday 9th February and run until Monday 16th March.

Phase 1 - Junction of Lyth Hill & The Common. Four - way temporary traffic lights for approximately 1 week

Phase 2 - Cross Roads junction. Two -way temporary traffic lights for approximately 6 days

Phase 3 - Burgs Road junction. Three - way temporary traffic lights for approximately 8 days

Weekend working may take place to help keep the project moving and minimise overall disruption. All timings are estimates and may change if unexpected issues arise.

📣📣Message from National Highways regarding resurfacing work on the A49 from Monday 2 February 2026 to 17 March 2026📣📣

We’re writing to inform you of some upcoming essential resurfacing work on the A49 at Bayston Hill. Our work has been combined to minimise future disruption and to provide a smoother and safer road surface for users.

~ Resurfacing of the A49
~ Resurfacing of the laybys within our working area
~ Renewal of high friction surfacing
~ Refresh all road markings throughout our working area
~ Road studs to be re-instated
~ Replacement of 4 signs
~ Renewal of ironworks and drainage gully repairs
~ Removal of debris

Safety is and always will be our number one priority; that is why our ambition remains that no one should be harmed while travelling or working on our roads.

When will this work take place?

We’ll work overnight from Monday 2 February 2026 to 17 March 2026, between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, ending 6am Saturday mornings.

To carry out our work safely, we’ll work under a full closure of the A49 from Bayston Hill roundabout to the junction at Station Road in Condover.

During closures, the following diversion route will be in place for strategic traffic. Local access will be maintained between Craven Arms and Condover.

📣📣Message below from Shropshire Highways 📣📣

❗❗Please allow extra time travelling to and from your appointments ❗❗

We will be undertaking Resurfacing work with a road closure from Church Road, Dorrington to Bethcott, Church Stretton. Please note access/egress for properties within the closure will be maintained when safe to do so.

This work will take place from Monday 2nd February - Thursday 12th February during the hours of 7am - 5pm, weekdays only.

Signs will be erected in the road before starting the work and the work will be completed as quickly as possible. A signed diversion route will be in place as per the map below.

If you are looking to access a property or business within the closure, we will provide access for you.

During the work, access to the works area will be restricted to:
* Local residents who live and reside within the road closure
* Businesses located within the closure (if applicable)
* Emergency Vehicles
