POSITIVE VIBES ONLY!

This phrase and its relatives seems to be plaguing the internet at the moment! Think positive; positive thoughts, positive positive positive POSITIVE!!!

Yes of course it is desirable to think positively and try to make the best of any given situation we find us in, but I feel lately that this phrase has become twisted and distorted into a ghoulish version of what the original message is supposed to be! I have witnessed people who are struggling or who are angry over how they have been treated being told to THINK POSITIVE and I have seen people being shut down on conversations for NOT BEING POSITIVE ENOUGH. This is where I think it becomes toxic.

Ok, nobody likes a negative thinker who moans all the time (I realise the irony that I am kind of doing that here!) But that is very different to allowing ourselves to feel our full range of emotions.
I feel it’s important we recognize our painful feelings, really feel into them and THEN work out a way to deal with them which will cause us the least pain. To shut someone down; to invalidate someone; to tell people their emotions are not ok is not being positive, it is gaslighting. Sometimes anger is very justified and is in fact necessary to spur us on to fight injustice. I feel it’s what we do with these negative emotions that matters – not allowing them to dominate us & wallow in them but putting them to positive effect.

And that to me is what positive thinking SHOULD mean! If you are feeling upset or angry with something at the moment, know that it is ok to feel that way.

I was recently asked whether I felt that I had found my calling in reflexology and it made me realise how fortunate I am to have a career that I feel so passionate about. I do feel as though it is my calling in life and I have met so many wonderful people through it who I would never have crossed paths with otherwise.

This year hasn't exactly been what I dreamed of in terms of my practice. It felt that almost as soon as I opened up The Reflexology Den it went into lockdown and I have spent more time out of it than I have in it! Now we're back on lockdown I'm just keeping everything crossed that I can re-open on 3rd December.

Much love to everyone who is going through a difficult time at the moment. Know that I am thinking of you all even if I can't support you the way that I know best.

A visit to Beckenham Place Mansion today for some daily exercise even if I wasn’t able to work in the den. The weather was like summer, I couldn’t believe it! I feel that it’s all going to be ok ❤️

Lockdown day 5!

I am trying to focus on the positive of being not able to work and have set myself some fitness goals for this time, as well as all the life admin I didn’t manage to achieve in the last lockdown!

Today I’ve managed a zoom yoga class with YogaBright and a dog walk. There was glorious Autumn sunshine in the park.

Love and hugs to anyone who is finding this time particularly difficult. These are certainly not easy times ❤️

It will come as no surprise that as of Thursday 5th November I am going to have to close the doors of The Reflexology Den for at least a month.

Hopefully this will give me some much-needed time to work on my admin and website so watch this space!

I will keep you updated on my re-opening and in the meantime stay safe everyone!
