Osteopathy is a manual therapy focused on optimizing the body's function by keeping it's structure stable and balanced. Osteopaths are trained to diagnose and treat musculo-skeletal conditions. I look at treating the whole body to find the cause of the problem and not just treating the symptoms. Treatment can include soft tissue massage, joint mobilisations, stretching techniques and manipulation to promote healing of the joints, muscles, ligaments and enhance the blood and nerve supply to an area.

Usually people give up quickly when they make too many unrealistic goals, so take a step back and really look at what you want to achieve.

Start small:

๐ŸŒ want to eat more fruit and veg? Have a banana with your coffee or add one extra veg portion with dinner
๐Ÿ’ง want to drink more water? Have a glass of water while waiting for the kettle to boil
๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ want to exercise more? Find one class and attend regularly
๐Ÿ˜ด want to sleep more? Go to bed 15mins earlier than you normally do
๐Ÿง  want to reduce stress? Get outside everyday, whatever the weather

Itโ€™s much easier to make small changes and build from there, and if you donโ€™t achieve it today, there is always tomorrow ๐Ÿ˜‰

I often get asked what is the best pillow, but the answer depends on :
๐Ÿ›Œ what position you sleep in
๐Ÿ›Œ how good your mattress is
๐Ÿ›Œ how warm/cold you get
๐Ÿ›Œ and if you are in any pain

Pain, pregnancy or post-surgery can mean you are not able to sleep in your usual position, so using pillows can help to support you while your body heals.

๐ŸŽ„December is here and itโ€™s the time for putting up decorations ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ“ฆ Itโ€™s also easy to injure yourself when moving boxes, over reaching, wiggling into awkward places and doing lots of bending and lifting.
So hereโ€™s some hints to prevent unnecessary pain:

๐ŸŒŸ use your knees to bend and lift
๐ŸŒŸ watch out for tripping over wires
๐ŸŒŸ use a stool or ladder and move it regularly to prevent over reaching
๐ŸŒŸ take your time, little and often so itโ€™s not too repetitive
๐ŸŒŸ remember itโ€™s supposed to be fun!

๐ŸคฐBirth may be a natural process but itโ€™s not always easy. The stresses and strains that the baby is put through, especially during traumatic deliveries, can lead to tension and pressure especially around the head and neck area.
Babies can show these problems in the way they find it difficult to move, feed, sleep or digest properly and can make them very unhappy โ˜น๏ธ

๐Ÿ™Œ Cranial osteopathy is a gentle approach to treating babies and young children. It works on pressure points and areas of tension in the body that are causing discomfort and allowing them to move, feed, sleep and digest more easily ๐Ÿ’†

Itโ€™s definitely feeling colder outside ๐Ÿฅถ I always get busy when the temperature drops so here is a reminder to:

โœ”๏ธ do up your coat
โœ”๏ธ put on your gloves
โœ”๏ธ wrap your scarf tightly
โœ”๏ธ put your hat on
BEFORE YOU GO OUTSIDE!!!

this is so that you trap the warm air against your body.
If you wait until you get outside then you trap the cold air against you which means not only do all your muscles tense up, but your body has to use up energy to warm you.

So listen to your Mum and do your coat up! ๐Ÿ˜†
