๐ŸญMarshmallows ๐Ÿฌ
โ
While marshmallows are always a choking hazardโ€”this is an especially important reminder now that we tend to see marshmallows gifted over Easter and 'easter marshmallows' being sold in popular stores.โ
โ
They can be enjoyed safely; they just need to be torn up into tiny pieces (or eaten by mum or dad while your little one is none the wiser ๐Ÿ˜‰). โ

โ„๏ธ Winter coats and jackets with padding can stop car seats from working correctly. ๐Ÿš—

โ„๏ธ With the days getting colder and colder, we're all reaching for our warmest and thickest coats to keep the chill at bay.

โ„๏ธ This includes our little ones, who we often wrap up in hats, scarfs and thick coats

โ„๏ธ And while it is important to keep your children warm throughout the winter, it is also very important to know the dangers of putting them in a car seat with a jacket on.

โ„๏ธ In the event of an accident or even a harsh break, the layers of a coat can stop the car seat from working correctly, and in turn put your little one at risk.

โ„๏ธ Car seat retailer Be Safe explain that most winter coats are filled up with materials such a feathers, which stops the seat from being tightened properly to a child's upper body.

โ„๏ธ As a result, the car seat cannot keep your child as firmly in place as it is designed to.

โ„๏ธ On their website, they write: "In the event of an impact where your child is pushed out of the seat and into the harness, the forces are so strong that the air in the coat is released.

โ„๏ธ This results in your child having too much space for movement, as the harness is not tight enough to hold them back securely.

โ„๏ธ When travelling with children in winter, we strongly encourage you to avoid having them wear thick winter jackets.

โ„๏ธ Instead of keeping their coat on, you can keep your kids warm in other ways which do not risk their safety.

โ„๏ธ For example, you can put your child's coat on back-to-front once the car seat belt is firmly secured.

โ„๏ธ You can also pop blankets over them after they are buckled up, or even use a hot water bottle to heat the car seat up before they get in.

โš ๏ธ Child safety ๐Ÿ‘ถ

With the clocks โฐ turning back tonight and the darker nights we need to consider child safety even more.

โš ๏ธ This is a post that needs sharing every year by everyone!

๐Ÿš— There is a child in both photos in the same position with a different colour coat on. Really important when choosing winter clothes.

๐Ÿงฅ Brighter coats or coats with stripes that illuminate when car head lights shine on the coat.

๐Ÿ‘ถ Are blueberries a common choking hazard for babies? โš ๏ธ

๐Ÿ‡ Yes. The round shape, small size, and firmness of a blueberry makes it a choking hazard for babies. To minimize the risk, flatten fresh blueberries into a disc shape between your fingers, quarter them and stir into other foods, or cook them until they burst.

โš ๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘ถ ๐Ÿก

Every parent and carer needs to see this.

You're at home. You realise it's quiet, and your child doesn't respond when you call out to see where they are.

As a parent, you will want to find your child as quickly as possible - and your instinct may tell you to check all of the most likely places that they will be (like under the beds).

What you MUST do instead, is prioritise checking places where there is a danger to the child, and where time is crucial.
This includes anywhere with water (pools, baths, washing machines, toilets, bird baths, buckets, etc.), anywhere they could be trapped and unsafe (the car, boot of the car), or where they could be headed for danger, like the road.

It is better to find them safe under a bed after checking these places, than the other way around.

โš ๏ธ DROWNING โš ๏ธ

๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ Watch your kids while they swim. Many kids will drown right in front of their parents, because drowning doesnโ€™t look like what you think it does.

๐Ÿ‘€ Do YOU know what it looks like?

๐Ÿ“บ Itโ€™s not what you see on TV. TV dramatizes it to keep you in suspense and make you keep watching.

This is what drowning REALLY looks like:

๐Ÿค 1) Itโ€™s SILENT. No splashes. No screams. They are trying to breathe and canโ€™t make noises.

๐Ÿ’จ 2) Itโ€™s FAST! It takes 20-60 seconds.

๐Ÿ’ฆ 3) There is no jumping out of the water or arms flailing around. It happens almost entirely under water.

๐Ÿ‘ฆ 4) Their head will be arched up, attempting to reach the surface to breathe. They may bob up and down just at the surface for a little while and this can look like doggy paddling/playing.

๐Ÿ’ฆ 5) Under the water, they are in a vertical, up and down position and their arms and legs are cycling as if they are trying to climb a ladder.

๐ŸŠโ€โ™€๏ธ6) They canโ€™t move forward much, if at allโ€ฆ.not enough to get to safety.

๐Ÿ’ฆ 7) They can be right next to the wall or an exit and still not be able to reach itโ€ฆand they will drown inches away from safety.

โš ๏ธ 8 ) They can be in water shallow enough for them to stand in but not realize they can simply stand up, as they are in panic mode.

Learn to spot drowning. You just might save a little life!!
