For Children’s Grief Awareness Week we are sharing a creative activity that can help children explore their emotions and remember someone important to them.

Using coloured chalk to represent different emotions, children can fill a jar with layers of colour that reflect their memories, thoughts and feelings. This simple activity encourages conversation and helps children express emotions that can feel difficult to put into words.

💜 Follow our step by step guide to create your own memory sand jar in this video.

Your donation helps us share creative grief activities for families across Northern Ireland.

Our Lights to Remember service has long been a cherished way to honour and celebrate those we’ve loved and lost. 💜

At Hospice, we know grief is a deeply personal journey. Dedicating a light on our virtual Christmas tree offers a meaningful way to keep a loved one’s memory shining bright throughout the festive season.

Every dedication symbolises love, remembrance, and the enduring impact of those we hold close, while also helping us continue providing vital Hospice care to families across Northern Ireland. 🕯️

Today for Children’s Grief Awareness Week we are sharing a simple creative activity to support children and young people who are grieving.

A memory box is a simple and meaningful way to help a child remember someone special.

In a memory box you can keep photos, letters and small objects that remind you of the person who has died. Children can personalise their box and fill it with the memories that matter most to them.

💜 A memory box can help children keep special memories close and express their feelings safely.
Try creating one together using our simple guide.

Today is the first day of Children’s Grief Awareness Week.

We are pleased to share our webinar for parents, carers, and anyone involved in the life of a child. This session explores what children understand about grief, how it can impact them, and how we can support them through their experiences.

🎥 Watch our webinar here: https://loom.ly/L_-3xmo

The webinar also highlights practical resources that can help children talk about their feelings and share their own story of grief and loss.

We hope you find it supportive and meaningful. Please check back tomorrow as we continue sharing stories, activities, and guidance throughout the week.

This week marks Children’s Grief Awareness Week 2025, a time to recognise and support children and young people who are living with grief.

The theme this year is "Sharing Stories, Strengthening Hope." By opening conversations and sharing experiences, we can build more compassionate communities for children and young people.

Throughout the week we will be sharing:
- Practical ideas for memory making
- Stories from young people and families, including how Hospice supported them
- Guidance for adults on supporting a grieving child
- Creative activities to help children express feelings

We hope you will join us and help shine a light on the experiences of children and young people who are grieving.

💜 If you are able, a small donation helps us continue supporting families across Northern Ireland.
