Antibiotic Resistance poses a real danger to society as a whole. Either we filter them out and remove them from our water table permanently or we become the filter.
⚠️ There's a pharmaceutical cocktail in our waterways – and it could threaten our health!💧
New research led by the University of Exeter found that when common non-antibiotic drugs (like painkillers or diabetes medication) mix with antibiotics in our waterways, they help bacteria become antibiotic-resistant. This means pollution from multiple pharmaceuticals might make it easier for “superbugs” to evolve, putting human health at risk. Read more about the study 🔗 https://exeter.pulse.ly/3tet2eua6l
📋 This aligns with findings from our latest Great UK WaterBlitz in September, which revealed high levels of antibiotics in our rivers, lakes, ponds and streams, amongst other chemical pollutants. Discover more in the WaterBlitz report 🔗 https://earthwatch.pulse.ly/zlbvas8c0h
