Why you canāt get ānatural lipsā if youāve had migration (without dissolving first).
For years, the messaging around filler was: āIt dissolves in 6ā12 months.ā
That led to a whole era of top-ups, layering, and the āmore is moreā aesthetic.. especially in lips.
But what we now understand is: That timeline isnāt always true, and it can vary from person to person.
Hyaluronic acid filler can last much longer than expected, particularly when:
āļøItās been built up over multiple appointments
āļøItās sitting outside the natural lip border
āļøItās in areas with less movement
āļøIts formed lumps and bumps
So even if you havenāt had filler for 1-5 yearsā¦
that doesnāt mean itās gone.
When filler moves, it doesnāt just sit there harmlessly.
āļøIt blurs the natural lip border.
āļøIt creates heaviness above the lip
āļøIt distorts shape and balance
āļøIt often forms lumps, uneven texture, or firmness.
And importantly, filler is hydrophilic.
That means it attracts and holds water, which can make migrated areas look puffier at certain times of day, inconsistent in shape and harder to control aesthetically
āCanāt we just add a little bit to fix it?ā
This is where it gets tricky.
Yes, I will admit that a small top-up can sometimes make lips look temporarily "better".
More defined. Fuller. More balanced. (But still migrated).
Medically and structurally, you are still building on top of migrated filler.
So over time:
The lip becomes bulkier, not better defined
Shape becomes harder to control
Lumps and unevenness become more noticeable, not less
Itās like trying to sculpt something precise on top of an already distorted base!
Controlling shape, volume and definition becomes difficult when there is old filler, and the results lack lustre.. existing lumps or firmness disrupt smooth placement.
So even with good technique, you cannot reliably create a clean, natural shape.
The honest truth
You canāt have: ā”ļø the smooth, natural, well-defined lips
If youāve had: ā”ļø migration, layering, or long-standing filler
ā¦without removing whatās already there first.
