Meet Stephen McDonald – a remarkable blood donor who recently marked his 66th birthday and also came to give an incredible 114th donation❤️

Stephen’s journey began back in 1976 when he was a student. A blood donation session was taking place on campus, and an instructor encouraged the class to attend. Stephen stepped forward — and he hasn’t stopped since.

What motivates him after all these years?

“You never know when someone in your family — or someone you know — might need a transfusion.”

That belief became deeply personal when his twin brother needed heart surgery. Seeing firsthand how vital blood transfusions are strengthened Stephen’s commitment to keep donating.

His dedication doesn’t stop at convenience either. When he missed his local community donation session because he was on holiday, Stephen made a special trip to our HQ at the city hospital to ensure he didn’t miss his chance to give.

That’s true commitment.

To anyone considering becoming a donor, Stephen says:

“It’s such a worthwhile cause — a great thing to do for others and for yourself.”

114 donations. Up to 342 lives saved. One simple act, Stephen has made a massive impact.

Our Story

In Northern Ireland three people are transfused every hour and over 800 units of red blood cells are used each week. Donation is simple and usually takes less than an hour yet only 6% of the eligible population donates.
