A beautiful poem for my little Maya! Written by her mother, after receiving a diagnosis of Rett Syndrome ❤️🩹
For Maya, My Girl
You are my moon, my brightest star,
my heart knows you just as you are.
A thousand dreams, a thousand plans,
all resting gently in our hands.
You speak in ways the world can’t hear,
your every glance pulls me near.
Your silence sings a sacred song
a girl who is fierce, unbreakably strong.
Rett may decide, “not this way,”
and steals the words you wish to say,
but still your laughter lights my skies
the sun itself lives in your eyes.
I grieved the paths you’ll never take,
the simple joys Rett tries to break,
but my grief and pride have learned to blend
now two halves of a circle without an end.
You give me strength I never knew,
in all the simple things you do.
Your courage blooms, so pure, so wild
my teacher, my daughter, my wondrous child.
I’d trade the pain, erase the need to fight,
I'd give all I have to make it right.
But even so, your soul still beams
One thousand hopes, one million dreams.
So here I stand, both scarred and blessed,
your name forever in my heart.
Through every trial, joy, tear and fear,
Maya, my girl, I’m SO glad you’re here.

Maya was only diagnosed with Rett syndrome three months ago. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem despite your heartache 💔
