The story of Reflexions Holistic Therapies - and me Lorraine Grove

My name is Lorraine Grove MFHT. I am a Complementary Therapist accredited member of the Federation of Holistic Therapies (FHT). I am based in Carryduff – 6 miles from Belfast, however, I can travel to you if required. I discovered the joy of Reflexology whilst going through a difficult time in my life. It gave me a new focus and helped me to discover that I could give something back to others. Since qualifying I have continued my journey completing courses by many wonderful teachers in the industry to allow me to enhance my skills and focus on more specific needs for my clients. These courses include Reflexology for Pain, for Lymph Drainage (RLD) for cancer and maternity. Also facial reflexology which is amazing. I was introduced to Bowen Therapy after suffering from persistent back pain with little relief, after just 1 treatment I was amazed at my body’s response and the gentleness of the technique. I have successfully used this therapy on all age groups from tiny babies with colic, young children with anxiety and bedwetting, older clients with muscular pain, hayfever, asthma, jaw pain - there are many areas where Bowen can help.

Self-care looks lovely on Instagram.
In real life, it’s often much simpler.

Less aesthetic.
More “lie down for a bit and let your nervous system catch up.”

Sometimes the most effective reset isn’t elaborate. It’s just giving your body a proper chance to relax.

Which one are you choosing today? Instagram self-care or honest self-care?

We often treat tension as a flaw.

Something to stretch away. Push through. Power past.

But the nervous system doesn’t create tension randomly.

It creates protection. Protection from overload. From instability. From perceived threat — physical or emotional.

The body adapts in the best way it knows how.

Bowen Therapy doesn’t force that protection to drop.

It introduces gentle, precise input — allowing the nervous system to reassess whether it still needs to hold on.

When the system feels safer, it can soften.

And that’s very different from being weak.

Reflexology is often sought out when stress, fatigue or discomfort have reached a tipping point, and while it can be deeply supportive in those moments, it’s rarely where the most lasting changes begin.

In practice, the clients who tend to experience the most noticeable benefits are those who don’t wait until they’re completely run down. They come when symptoms are subtle, when stress is building quietly, or simply because they recognise the value of regular support.

Reflexology works by encouraging the body’s natural balance and self-regulation. Like many wellbeing approaches, its effects are often cumulative, meaning consistency matters. Regular sessions can help the nervous system stay regulated, rather than constantly recovering from overload.

Looking after yourself doesn’t have to be a response to burnout. It can be part of how you prevent it in the first place.

26/02/2026

Burnout develops over time when prolonged stress overwhelms the body’s ability to recover. It can affect energy levels, concentration, sleep, emotional resilience, and the nervous system’s capacity to switch out of a constant state of alertness.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that may support burnout recovery by encouraging deep relaxation and helping to regulate the nervous system. When the body is given regular opportunities to move into a rest-and-restore state, it can begin to rebuild its capacity for rest, energy, and emotional processing.

Reflexology may also help improve body awareness, supporting individuals in recognising early signs of fatigue or overwhelm. This awareness can be an important part of recovery, helping people respond more gently to their limits rather than pushing through exhaustion.

While reflexology does not replace medical or psychological care, it can be used alongside appropriate support as part of a gradual, holistic approach to recovery. By working with the body rather than forcing change, reflexology may help support resilience and a more sustainable return to balance over time.

My Menopause program includes working the face, hands and feet in each treatment focusing on the endocrine system
It also includes lots of tips for good nutrition and lifestyle. Check it out www.reflexionsholistictherapies.co.uk

Peri-menopause has a way of making you question yourself - your patience, your energy, even your personality.

You’re not dramatic.
Your body is adjusting.

Reflexology supports relaxation and overall wellbeing during times of hormonal change, offering a calm space for the nervous system to settle when everything feels a bit louder than usual.

Support isn’t indulgent. It’s practical.

Remember to take time to relax 😌

Tension isn’t always a strength issue.

Sometimes it’s communication.

Your nervous system is constantly assessing safety, load and demand.

Muscles often tighten as part of that response.

Bowen Therapy introduces precise input — giving the nervous system new information to process.

Change the message? And the body might just change its response.

Stress shows up in many forms, and it doesn’t have to be carried alone.

Reflexology provides a calm, supportive space to slow down, unwind, and allow the body to settle out of stress mode. By encouraging relaxation and balance, it can support overall wellbeing during busy or challenging times.

If your body has been asking for a pause, reflexology may be a gentle place to start 🌿

Ageing well is about maintaining balance, comfort, and quality of life as the body changes over time. Factors such as circulation, mobility, sleep quality, stress levels, and emotional wellbeing all play a role in how we experience ageing.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works holistically, supporting the body’s natural systems rather than focusing on specific conditions. By encouraging deep relaxation and supporting nervous system balance, reflexology may help the body move out of a prolonged stress response. This can have a positive effect on sleep, circulation, and overall vitality.

Reflexology may also support comfort and mobility by helping to ease tension and improve circulation to tissues. Many people find that regular sessions help them feel more settled, rested, and better able to cope with the physical and emotional demands of daily life as they age.

While reflexology does not replace medical care, it can be used alongside conventional healthcare as part of a proactive approach to wellbeing. Used regularly, reflexology may help support resilience, body awareness, and balance throughout the ageing process.
