This week we welcomed a great group of Discover CAFRE's Level 3 Agriculture Students, for a tour around our York Road site. There were lots of questions and thoughts about the students future plans, which our team were happy to discuss and even share stories of how they came to work in Thompsons.

Led by our Formulations Manager Sharon Doherty, we had three groups going around the mill, with Kathryn Gibson and Trudi Scott, both part of the formulations team, in charge of a group and our Head of Buying, Ed Brown with another keen group of students.

We thoroughly enjoyed showing the students around and even had a bit of sunshine to top off their day out and about. We hope you enjoyed your visit and your afternoon out on farm 😀😎

At the weekend we saw the first of five qualifiers, giving riders the opportunity to be awarded a highly coveted place to compete at Balmoral Show 2026 in the hugely popular Performance Draught Class, which takes place on the Thursday morning during the show.

Sponsored by Pegus Horse Feed for the second year, this class showcases the versatility of the Irish Draught, a breed which has become a yard favourite, due to its temperament, trainability and athleticism.

Thompsons' Mary-Jane Robinson and Alan Archibald were on hand to review the results Ian Po***ck has seen since introducing Zinpro IsoFerm into the dry cow diet last October. Huge congratulations to one of our newest Sales Team members, Robyn McConnell, who along with her local club Holestone Young Farmers, successfully impressed the judges with their performance at the Young Farmers' Clubs of Ulster ‘Arts Festival’ heats on Friday night to a packed crowd in Ballymena Academy.

A competition designed to showcase the musical and acting skills within each young farmers club, the quality of performances improves every year, making the challenge to get to the final at the Millennium Forum on 21st March tougher.

But Robyn's club put in a fantastic performance and will get the opportunity to compete against four other clubs with their hugely entertaining drama piece entitled, “Change of Heart” 🎶

We wish Robyn the best of luck with this and look forward to hearing how they get on at the final!
