Action Ability Belfast AAB promotes the social inclusion of people with a disability into their communities

At Action Ability Belfast "Our aim is to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities into the community and to support the development of their natural abilities." We are a pan disability support charity that seeks to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities into the community through a community development and needs lead approach. Since 1998, Action Ability Belfast has been to the forefront in developing high quality responsive services to meet the needs of local people with disabilities and their families. The project has been actively campaigning for the inclusion of people with disabilities and ensuring that they receive the support they need within ordinary structures of education, health, employment, and social services. Over the past number of years our services have grown from strength to strength, and we continually strive in excellence to ensure that the services we provide are of the highest quality, responsive and represent the best interests of people with disabilities. Through socially inclusive needs-led community-based programmes, we empower and support local people with disabilities through offering an extensive range of services, on a one to one or group basis, such as:
• Advocacy Service
• Befriending service
• Carers Information and Support
• Floating Support
• Social Support Projects
• Summer Activity Programme
• Volunteering and Peer Volunteering Opportunities

No Passport? No Problem! 🎫🚫

If you live in Northern Ireland and don’t have a passport, there are great ways to prove your ID and disability status without carrying bulky paperwork.

Our Advocacy Team can help you apply for:

🚌 1. Translink SmartPass (FREE)
The "must-have" NI card. Official photo ID that gives you free or half-fare travel and is widely accepted for discounts.

♿ 2. The Blue Badge
More than just a parking permit! It’s a government-issued photo ID that’s perfect for "Carer Goes Free" entry at cinemas and venues.

💳 3. The DID Card
A national photo ID specifically for disabled people. Use it to prove your entitlement to concession rates instantly.

🛡️ 4. The Access Card (Nimbus)
The "Disability Passport" for concerts and theaters (like the SSE Arena). Its symbols tell staff exactly what support you need so you don’t have to explain.

🔞 5. Post Office PASS Card
Need "legal" ID for domestic flights or age verification? This is a great, low-cost alternative to a driving licence.

🌻 6. Sunflower Lanyard/Card
The universal sign for hidden disabilities. Perfect for getting extra support in airports and supermarkets.

Confused about forms? 📝
Applying for ID can be a headache. Our Advocacy Service is here to help you check eligibility and fill out the paperwork.
