This morning Katie Hoey has been discussing with farmers the economic impact of calf health issues such as diarhoea and pneumonia, plus the cost-benefits that can be achieved with elevated nutrition in the first few weeks of life. The focus is on getting the right amount of digestible energy into the calves from day one for optimal gut and immune system development. Research has shown that optimising the fat composition in milk replacers can have a profound effect on incidence and severity of diarhoea and inclusion of the essential short-chain fatty acids has been achieved in Trouw Nutrition's new patent-pending LactoFat Pro technology found in Milkivit ONE.
