Babes came into clinic for a weight loss consultation. We can all guess what the outcome of this consultation was. It's a no from me 🤚.
Let's talk about weight loss medication. There is so much negative views on weight loss medication, some people think it's an easy way out others saying its lazy. First of all it is prescribed for the treatment of obesity, and has had phenomenal results for those it is intended for. Obesity its self comes with a lot of life threatening complications such as; heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, sleep apnoea. Not to mention poor mental health.
It is a prescription only medication which means a face to face assessment is essential, for the practitioner to carryout a thorough consultation and follow the criteria set out. Then the risks and benefits weighed up as to if the drug is a suitable treatment. Meaning if the condition is more of a risk to the persons health thann the risks of the medication it may be suitable.
A person who is taking weightloss medication when they don't need it, are taking on the risks of the medication without them being weighed and the risk ultimately is high. Every drug has risks and benefits and should always be discussed with the patient during consultation and prescribed with caution.
Basically if the practitioner feels it's not the right treatment, it isn't!
A lot of people use food as a comfort and it can become an addiction. Yes food addiction, and it becomes psychological, will power alone will not assist.
If weight loss medication is used correctly and safely it can be life changing. It's not okay to judge people for something out of their control.
