This afternoon we got settled in our Panel Lounge for our Saturday movie matinee.

The film was chosen by our residents, How To Marry A Millionaire staring Marilyn Monroe.

They really enjoyed this movie and were already chatting about what they’ll watch next weekend.

Cake number two, for a very special lady.

Sheila requested a Lemon birthday cake. She was thrilled to receive this from the home at teatime, as were her friends as they all got to sample a piece.

We love to celebrate birthdays with our residents, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate each individual.

Thank you to Vicky, Taniya, Katie and Mia for hosting a sing a long this afternoon.

One of the greatest things about working at Holbrook Hall is when our residents ask for something and later in the day you receive the videos of our wonderful team supporting them in their wishes.

Great work team Holbrook and wonderful singing from all.

Clive and Margaret are twisting their way into the New Year.

This afternoon our staff held a sing along that soon lead into our residents having a good old boogie.

Listening to music is scientifically proven to be good for you, offering extensive mental and physical benefits like reducing stress, improving mood and sleep, boosting memory, enhancing focus, lowering blood pressure, and even helping manage pain by stimulating various brain regions and releasing feel-good chemicals. It provides a total brain workout, keeps neural pathways strong, and can be a powerful tool for self-care and cognitive health

After lunch and chatting about the fireworks in London during our quiz.
Some residents asked to watch them, so we found them on the TV and watched them together.
On hearing the last firework go off, our wonderful Dorothy said ‘they weren’t as good as ours’, Dorothy, we’d have to agree.
It was great to sit together, countdown to ‘midnight’, hear Big Ben chime, watch the fireworks and then sing Auld Lang Syne together.
Thank you to our residents for suggesting watching them, this afternoon.

We started the New Year in the best way today with fabulous food, friends and fun.

We gathered in the Dining Room for a New Year feast cooked by our Head Chef Helen. This consisted of Roast Beef with all the trimmings followed by Trifle and Baileys Chocolate Delight. Served with Prosecco, Bucks Fizz and Rose Wine. Finished off with Tea or Coffee and an After Eight chocolate.

We then hosted a New Years Quiz, it was lovely to have so many staff joining in with this, thank you .
We had joint winners today The Scrabblers and Lisa’s Angels. Well done to everyone who had a go, we’ve popped the questions on here incase you wanted to challenge yourself.

This morning we set off on a tour of Derbyshire.
We popped to see the Heage Windmill and Crich Stand before heading towards Chatsworth.
It was wonderful to see so many Deer out around the house.
We then headed for lunch of fish and chips that we collected from Toll Bar Fish & Chips in Stoney Middleton. We went and ate these looking out over marvellous views of Curbar.
It was then time for a cuppa, so we headed to Monsel Head.
It was then time to head home through Bakewell and Cromford.
Thank you, Martin for driving us today and Karen, Katie and Amelia for supporting this outing.

This evening we had a New Year’s Eve party.

We started the evening in the Dining Room with a buffet for our residents and staff to enjoy, thank you Ruth for this lovely spread. Alongside this we had a glass or two of Bucks Fizz, which our residents really liked.

We then went into the Panel Lounge to get the ‘neon’ New Year Party started. We had various songs from the music man to wartime classics.
Finishing off with Auld Lang Syne

For those who didn’t want the party to end we popped a war time sing along on for them to join in with. The singing sounded wonderful throughout the home.
