Living with a neurological condition can be stressful — and finding ways to look after both your body and mind isn’t always easy.
This Stress Awareness Week, we’re sharing five activities that can help you reduce stress, move more easily, and feel better day to day.
Pilates
Pilates is an excellent exercise for all, helping to develop strength, balance, improve posture, mobility, and co-ordination. The focus on breathing and controlled movement can calm the nervous system and ease muscle tension.
We currently hold three Pilates classes: Our weekly beginner Pilates class is on a Tuesday at 11:30 AM at Sacred Heart Hall. Mixed ability classes are held on Fridays at 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM at Carmenta Life, Berkhamsted.
Strength Classes
We run whole body strength and cardiovascular fitness classes with work aimed at balance, co-ordination, exercise endurance and power.
These classes are run on a Thursday and we offer a variety of levels.
Seated Exercises
A great starting point if you’re less mobile and your balance is more challenged. Chair-based and supported standing movements can improve circulation, posture, and mindfulness.
Aerobic Exercise
Walking, swimming, or cycling gently boost brain function and release endorphins that lift your mood. Being active outdoors can also lower stress and provide a great social outlet too. Our therapists can help support you to access aerobic exercise and outdoor activities.
Boxing-style Workouts
Big, rhythmic movements build strength and balance, while helping you feel energised and in control. These can be easily adapted to suit different abilities.
We're excited to hold our first boxing class specifically designed for people living with Parkinson’s on Tuesday 11th November, 1-2pm at Harry's Boxing Gym.
When mobility becomes more challenging, it can knock confidence and take a toll on mood. Our goal is to bring movement and joy back into our patients’ lives, helping them feel stronger and more in control. Small steps can make a big difference in managing stress and supporting mental wellbeing.
