If you’re working with a therapist, you might sometimes hear the word “supervision” mentioned, and we want you to know that’s a really positive thing!

Supervision is a regular, confidential space where therapists reflect on their work with an experienced supervisor. It’s not about being “checked up on”; it’s about making sure you’re getting the safest, most thoughtful support possible. Professional bodies like the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy require it for good reason - it protects clients. You, in other words!

It helps make sure that:
• Your therapist is thinking carefully about your work together
• Stuck points are explored from different angles
• Risk and safeguarding are handled responsibly
• Blind spots are noticed and addressed
• Your therapist stays emotionally resourced and present

At Bab'yama, we're incredibly proud of our therapy team for organising group supervision sessions together. Creating space to learn from one another, reflect as a team, and strengthen our practice ultimately benefits the people who matter most - again, you.

Good therapy doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s supported, reflected on, and continuously strengthened behind the scenes.

So if you are thinking about trying therapy, know that your mental health will be in very safe hands. 🫶🏼

Our kind of yoga classes! Ready to get your vibe on?! 😂❤️

Oh dear. What has become of me?

Our new block starts on Monday and I *meant* to do all sorts of clever social media marketing extolling the bloody awesomeness of yoga and how it will sort out the dumpster fire that is your head.

But my own dumpster fire was itself ablaze all week, writing what will undoubtedly be a Booker Prize-winning novel set in a town bearing no resemblance whatsoever to dearest Berwick.

And because much of yoga on socials is expected to conform as fitness or fashion, I really can't muster any enthusiasm to take precious time out in order to jostle for position.

Yes, uh-huh. As marketing strategies go, it's a bold one.

Know this. You've still time to sign-up for yoga classes with someone who knows what they're doing and why.

Also, you can wear your manky ole joggers and your paint-spattered tees. We'll mostly be working with our heads but when we do move, I actively encourage the type of kick-arse attitude depicted here.

I very much think of my classes as a vibe. You'd be most welcome.✌🏼😘 Tx

The theme of this year's Children's Mental Health week "This is My Place", is all about having a sense of belonging, feeling a valued part of the groups or places that are important to us.

Growing up can bring many challenges so it's important that children and young people are able to have a place, or places, where they feel cared for and comfortable enough to be themselves.

Counselling can help young people to explore what or where is "their place", supporting them in developing confidence and resilience so they are better able to thrive.

Acknowledge it, grieve it gently. There was a reason you made those choices. And if you recognise that, your time to live to the fullest is now. ❤️

We're all absolutely delighted to welcome Alex as a new yoga teacher for the studio, with brand new classes starting THIS WEEK!

Alex has been one of my (Trood) students for many years' standing and it's always such a privilege to play a part in another person's deeper exploration into the transformative practice of yoga. I can vouch for her skill and heart-felt dedication to bring further authentic yoga classes to the studio. And, I admit, I am fussy!

Here's Alex, in her own words:

"I’m so excited to join the Babyama team. After attending yoga classes and wellness events in the space over the years, it’s a real privilege to get to teach!

"I’d like to introduce to you to my new yoga classes, every Thursday for the next five weeks, starting from Thursday 22 January 2026. They are 1 hour long, and start at 6pm.

"It is a balanced Hatha-style class designed for all levels.

"We begin with a gentle sun salutation flow to warm the body and move with the breath, followed by classic poses held for longer to build foundational strength and flexibility. Perfect for beginners or those looking for a mindful, steady practice.

"I know everyone comes to yoga for their own reasons, and I hope to support each and every student in their unique journey. I welcome feedback as I begin this series so I can adapt it to best suit you.

"I’m really looking forward to getting to know you, and sharing the treasure passed down to me by my teachers. I’d love to be able to offer to others what I have been the grateful recipient of in the past."

Booking and further information via the comments.

Here, here, Elspeth! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

If you're already losing your grip on those New Year's resolutions, cut yourself some slack!

This is the time of year when we're meant to slow, rest, and draw inwards.

So put away the running shoes, throw away the soulless crispbreads. Instead, enjoy marshmallows on your hot chocolate, the cheese on your soup and, whenever possible, lie back and dream.

Out of the starting blocks!

Hello, and welcome to Bab'yama Wellness Hub! We're nestled in the eaves of one of Berwick-upon-Tweed's many historical town houses a short distance away from the Elizabethan walls and beautiful park walks. Founded by Trudy Morrison of Berwick & Borders Yoga and Isabelle Roney of Borders Meditation, we're a small, bright and airy studio with attached therapy room, founded for the sole reason of bringing a kinder, more holistic approach to health and fitness to North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.

Our name is derived from Berwick and Borders Yoga & Meditation, combined with the sanskrit word 'yama', a term in yogic philosophy for "right living" or ethical rules.

We seek to bring together a family of instructors, counsellors and complementary therapists committed to providing the best care and support people need to get back on track, physically, mentally and spiritually, and offering a warm and safe environment in which to find peace, healing or simply friends. At the moment, Bab’yama offers classes in yoga, yoga for children, qigong, meditation and mindfulness. As we move forward, we’re planning to introduce pilates, t’ai chi, sound therapy ... in fact any health modality that improves stress levels and brings the body back into balance.
