Katy Wood Celebrant

Katy Wood Celebrant At all stages in life, people are at the centre. A wedding, a funeral, a naming ceremony, or other - it's all about the person. It is, quite simply, their day.
(1)

I'm a fully qualified Funeral & Family Celebrant and every ceremony I write & deliver is bespoke and personal. Welcome to my page and thank you for finding me. I became a fully qualified Funeral and Family Celebrant in 2019, training with the UK Society of Celebrants to write and deliver bespoke funerals for families across Hull and the East Riding. I also lead wedding, naming and other unique ceremonies. Let me tell you a little bit about myself, to help you decide whether you might want me to be part of your ceremony. I'm a former journalist and I also work as a PR Consultant. I was drawn to becoming a Celebrant as I am very much a 'people person' with an enormous amount of empathy and a genuine wish to help and support people, whether it is through one of the hardest times of their lives, or the happiest. In my previous career in journalism, I met many families going through extraordinary milestones and events in their lives, and this has equipped me with the experience and skills to help, whether it's preparing to say goodbye to a loved one, joining two lives together in a wedding ceremony, or welcoming a new addition to the family with a beautiful, bespoke naming day. My ceremonies aim to truly capture and reflect the people at the centre of them. FUNERALS:
I spend time with loved ones, getting to know the person they loved, so I can truly describe their personality, achievements, their loves in life, who they were and what they meant to their friends and family. I discuss the ceremony with you in advance, ensuring every detail is accurate and nothing is missed. When restrictions allow, I sit with you in your home and take time to listen to your stories and memories. I will help you with anything you need regarding the ceremony, whether that's choosing the right photographs for the Order of Service, selecting the music, or offering advice on readings if you need it. Every detail will be carefully considered. Many of the families I work with prefer the very personal nature of a Celebrant-led ceremony, as their loved one is the sole focus. WEDDINGS:
It is a great honour to conduct a wedding ceremony and tell the story of two people who love each other dearly. I was also married recently and know how important it is to reflect you as a couple, your love and what you mean to one another. My bespoke approach, which can include various meaningful elements, will ensure it is a true celebration of your lives joining together. It will be deeply personal and will be your day, your way. NAMING CEREMONIES:
A naming ceremony is a completely unique celebration of your child. It's their special day to share and celebrate with those closest to them. These ceremonies ensure your child is the star of the show and, with your input, we will make it a magical day for everyone involved to remember forever. Your naming ceremony can include a range of elements and you can get involved too. The aim is to make it personal, fun and unforgettable.

National Grief Awareness Week is running until December 8 and this year’s theme is “Growing With Grief.”

The Good Grief Trust has lots of information and resources about the week, as well signposting for a huge range of support.

The charity says: “Losing a loved one feels like an ending in so many ways. But in time, it can also become the ground from which something new begins.

“After that loss, we can't go back to who we were, but instead, we can grow into someone new shaped by love, memories, and resilience.

“This growth doesn’t erase the pain, but it allows hope to return. We may even become more present, more compassionate, more aware of what truly matters in life.”

Grief is a very individual journey and affects everyone in different ways.

There are no rules in grief and it can change and impact everything.

You somehow you learn to live with it and carry it, and this can be a particularly challenging time of year for many experiencing grief of any form.

A lovely way to remember loved ones at Christmas đź’ś

We will be holding our Annual Christmas Memorial Service on Wednesday 17th December, at 6.30pm in Beverley Minster.

The Memorial Service will be an uplifting service to commemorate the lives of those who have passed away during recent times. The service will cover both religious and non-religious aspects and this is hoped to provide some comfort during the festive period as we mourn the loss of loved ones no longer with us.

We will sing some Christmas carols, have moments of reflection and also light candles in memory of our loved ones who are at rest.

We welcome all who would wish to attend.

Following the memorial service, complimentary refreshments will be available and everyone is welcome to stay.

Please could you let us know if you will be joining us at the memorial service so we have an idea of numbers. This can be done by telephone (01482 888658) or email (info@lewisnorthenfuneraldirectors.co.uk).

We will also have our Christmas tree in the Minster from the annual Christmas tree festival where you can write a message to a loved one and place it on our tree in their memory on the tags provided. The festival takes place from Friday 5th December - Sunday 14th December.

Sadly this is so heartbreakingly true 💔 Just lately we are having more and more drivers on the roads being impatient and trying to push in on the Funeral Cortège’s in between the Hearse and the Limousines with bereaved family members in, and even on funerals with horses too.

This is happening to the point where accidents have nearly been caused because someone just wants to cut in or to cut through.

I appreciate we drive slower, but this is someone’s final journey, and this is done out of respect.

Whether this makes you 30 seconds, one minute or two minutes late for where you need to be, think about that person who has passed and the families that are following.

A final journey is so precious 🤍

Six years ago today I qualified as a celebrant đź’›

It’s an amazing job and an honour to support families and couples who put their trust in you at the most difficult and happiest times of their lives.

Thank you to my wonderful tutor and friend, Ellie, for the excellent training to enable this to happen x
