Reshare from 5 years ago :) SEPSIS awareness

My name is Sophie, I founded EYFA in 2016, I thank god I did! Please read my story

I am 32, mum to two young girls. I have NO underlying health conditions, I am active and have a normal BMI.
On Thursday last week I had backache and a tummy upset accompanied with a low grade temp. I very suddenly became very unwell, with shivering, fever, fatigue, and a severe headache. Within two hours, I was unresponsive with a fever above 40c. My breathing was very faint, and my blood pressure low. I was sent via ambulance to A&E with very little ability to talk or respond. I was quickly diagnosed with SEPSIS and treated for meningitis as a precaution via two strong IV antibiotics. My condition improved over a couple of days, I was discharged on Sunday. I was so lucky.
Two days earlier, I presented as unwell, I collapsed, had periods of confusion, and low blood pressue. My condition was missed.
We mentioned SEPSIS on both occasions. But on the first admission to hospital my bloods were clear. I had periods where my temperature was normal and my blood pressure normal, but I knew I was still unwell. If you feel like you have never felt before, or deteriorate even after seeing a doctor, seek help! SEPSIS will kill in hours.

This man saved my life! :-)

During the hot weather a reminder about storing auto-injectors.

Do not expose to direct sun light, or allow the pens to exceed a temperature of 25°c. This WILL change the effectiveness of the drug.

Think auto-injector safety. Store correctly. Keep children safe.

With the temperature set to hit record highs over the next few days, please ensure you are taking precautions to look after yourselves and others. The hottest days are predicted for Monday and Tuesday.

Please wear sun cream when out and keep hydrated. Try to keep cool whenever possible – using fans and keeping windows open and blinds closed indoors. Turn off electricals and screens as they produce additional heat.

Do look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours and if you see animals or children left unattended in cars in the first instance call 999, a call handler will assist you to take swift and appropriate action if there is an immediate risk to life.

The scorching temperatures could affect roads and transport infrastructure, so plan your journeys accordingly and if it's not necessary give it a miss.

There is a likelihood of people cooling off in rivers or lakes, if you see somebody in trouble in the water - don't enter the water to rescue please call 999.

The incredibly dry weather also increases the chances of fires, particularly in fields. if you see a fire call 999.

Remember in non-urgent situation call 101 or report online via our force website.

Our officers patrolling will also be out in the heat so please be kind and mindful.
