Benedict’s Law was proposed following the tragic death of five-year-old Benedict Blythe, who died from a fatal anaphylactic reaction at school. The law seeks to ensure that schools take proactive, statutory steps to protect children at risk of severe allergic reactions - including having spare adrenaline auto-injectors on site and ensuring all staff are trained to respond confidently in an emergency.

The reality in the UK is stark: while fatalities are thankfully rare, around 20–30 people die each year from anaphylaxis, and hospital admissions for severe allergic reactions in children have increased by over 70% in recent years. This makes it vital that staff aren’t just aware of the risks - they are prepared and confident to act.
