Stress triggers your body's "fight-or-flight" response, flooding you with adrenaline and cortisol. Stress symptoms may be affecting your health and wellbeing, even though you might not know it!

Often we find we blame sickness for that annoying headache, sleeping troubles, feeling unwell or your lack of focus and motivation. But sadly...stress may really be the cause 😔

Here are some tell-tale signs to look out for:

⚠️ON THE BODY⚠️
Feeling exhausted
Muscles feeling tense
Experiencing frequent headaches
Finding your stomach often feels upset
Noticing a change in sleep patterns
Noticing a change in appetite
Noticing your hormones are imbalanced
Having a weakened immune system

⚠️ON THE MIND⚠️
Getting easily agitated or angry quickly
Experiencing restlessness
Lack of motivation and focus
Feeling overwhelmed
Constantly worrying
Feeling disorganised and forgetful
Withdrawing from others
Feeling sadness/low self esteem

Reflexology helps reduce stress by promoting deep relaxation, calming the "fight or flight" response, lowering stress hormones like cortisol, and releasing physical tension, leading to better sleep, improved mood, and overall wellbeing ✨️🙏✨️

We talk about the power of touch and yes there is a huge amount of 'power' held in the touch between two people.

But 'feeling' when you 'touch' is the key.

Having the ability/intuition to really feel when you are a reflexologist (or anyone who works with people/animals hands on) is truly important. Some would say it's a gift.

Through feeling you can listen to the body. Through trust and compassion you can mindfully pay attention to sensations like tension or discomfort, which are messages from the body.

It requires patience to observe these feelings without judgment and involves integrating physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects for overall wellbeing.

I use manual techniques like thumb walking and finger pressure to apply precise pressure to specific reflex points, which allows me to feel for areas of tenderness or sensitivity, such as grittiness (often indicating an imbalance).

I create a calm and relaxed atmosphere, which helps clients fall into a receptive state allowing me to tune into their feedback. This feedback that I feel really helps guide the treatment and focus on their specific needs to promote holistic healing.

(Note: a holistic approach to healing addresses the whole person...physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, rather than focusing on one isolated part)

Feeling sluggish? Maybe your metabolism could do with a little boost...

Reflexology can help support a healthy and efficient metabolism. Working specific reflex points that correspond to organs within the endocrine system, reflexology can help restore balance and energy flow.

These are some of the reflex points that I focus on when encouraging your body to find its natural balance and give your metabolism a gentle nudge:

✨️Thyroid✨️
✨️Parathyroid✨️
✨️Pineal gland✨️
✨️Pituitary gland✨️
✨️Pancreas✨️
✨️Stomach✨️
✨️Intestines✨️

These organs and glands produce hormones that regulate blood sugar, energy levels, and the breakdown and absorption of nutrients all of which help regulate metabolism.

Did you know that pausing to be grateful is so beneficial for our physical, mental and emotional health.

Being grateful can actually promote positive emotions, help reduce stress, improve resilience, improve social bonds, boost your mood, can lower blood, may improve sleep and helps enhance your overall wellbeing ✨️

Making time to be grateful and recognise the great things available to you can in fact train your brain to focus on the positive things in life...we could all do with a gentle reminder of this from time to time!!!

🧠 Scientific fact 🧠

When you feel grateful your brain releases chemicals called dopamine and serotonin which are like happiness boosters that make you feel good ✨️🤩✨️

What are you grateful for?

The solar plexus is a network of nerves situated just below the diaphragm (just above the naval)...it is a useful area for helping relaxation in the body.

In reflexology terms the solar plexus reflex can be a good reflex to focus on for relaxation and restoring energy.

A technique I use during my reflexology treatments to help the body relax is solar plexus breathing.

◇Solar plexus breathing◇ placing the thumbs on the solar plexus reflexes, take a nice big inhale (breathe in), as pressure is applied, then as you exhale (breathe out), pressure is released.

I was thinking about my favourite ways to exercise and move my body and in fact they all rely on concious breathwork.

Concious breathwork is so important for helping calm the nervous system and encourage our bodies to 'work' as efficiently as possible and builds better control over your breathing when you exercise ~ ultimately perform better and feel better.

Some of my favourite ways to move include swimming, running, pilates/yoga and calisthenics inspired workouts...all of these have a vital link to concious breathing.

Proper breathing ensures you perform exercises correctly and safely. Concious breathing during exercise helps with injury prevention and recovery.

For dynamic movements, the general rule is to exhale during exertion (concentric) and inhale during the recovery (eccentric).

Running involves rhythmic, deep breathing by syncing your breaths to your stride and using your diaphragm efficiently. When you're working hard it is easy to forget about your breathing.

Swimming relies on controlled exhalations underwater and quick inhales. Breathwork can improve lung capacity and breathing control for swimming. When I'm breathing efficiently my body relaxes and I swim smoothly and efficiently.

I find during Pilates, each breath becomes a powerful tool for managing stress and tension held in my body. It also allows me to focus on slow controlled movements as well as promoting overall wellbeing and relaxation.

What forms of exercise do you love? Do you think about your breath during exercise?

The Pituitary gland is a tiny pea sized organ with a giant influence in reflexology.

During a reflexology treatment I often discover that endocrine gland reflexes tend to be sensitive, sore, or surprisingly reactive.

Endocrine glands are small and delicate and work under constant physiological pressure. They are buried deep within our body protected by muscle and bone.

To reach these reflex points and really work into them, requires depth, and the deeper you go, the more likely you are to meet resistance, tension, or sometimes pain.

Among all endocrine glands, the pituitary gland is unique because of its role as the 'master regulator' of the entire endocrine svstem.

This is why, in Reflexology, stimulating the pituitary can be both powerful and transformative in terms of healing and overall wellbeing.

✨️ REFLEXOLOGY ✨️ may look calm from the outside but what you don't see is the reflexologist carefully observing, assessing, and esponding throughout to make sure your treatment is tailored to you and your needs in that moment.

During your reflexology treatment, a great deal of professional attention is taking place behind the scenes while you lay back and relax.

As a Reflexologist I am continuously observing the feet monitoring your level of relaxation, adjusting techniques, and working with an understanding of the body's systems.

What may appear simple from the outside is in fact a skilled, attentive and responsive process to make sure each and every client receives the best care and attention they need and deserve ✨️😍✨️

Behind every gentle movement you receive is a skilled reflexologist (me!) bringing anatomical knowledge, training, experience and awareness together ✨️🙏✨️

Everyone can benefit from taking a pause in their day to observe.

Pause in stillness and observe what is around you. Then take some lovely big inhales and exhales and observe again.

What you will probably notice is that everything now seems clearer...clarity, focus and heightened awareness come from lovely big releasing exhales.

I often pause in stillness when I'm out walking. Look around me then take 3 big inhales and exhales and look again...

Every time I see with more clarity, softness, heightened awareness, appreciation and connection with myself ✨️🙏✨️

Take a moment in your day to pause and reset your body ~ trust me you'll really start to notice a difference ~ mentally, physically and emotionally 🤩
