Is a hormone imbalance affecting your life more than you realise? 🌿

Mood swings, poor sleep, anxiety, weight changes. Painful or difficult periods. These are things that so many people put up with, often for years, without realising there's a common thread running through all of them. Hormones.

When hormones are out of balance, it doesn't just affect how you feel day to day. It can be a driving force behind conditions like PCOS, fibroids, cysts, endometriosis and fertility difficulties too. Too much oestrogen, in particular, actively encourages unwanted growths and makes existing conditions harder for your body to manage.

The good news? There is a lot you can do to help - and most of it doesn't require a prescription. I've published a blog covering some of the most effective ways to support hormone balance naturally, including:

• Reducing sugar - and why insulin spikes are doing more hormonal damage than most people know
• Improving digestion - and the crucial role your gut plays in keeping oestrogen levels in check
• Avoiding hormone-disrupting chemicals - including common culprits hiding in everyday products
• Zinc and manganese - two nutrients your body genuinely needs to make and balance hormones
• Stress and the adrenal connection - and why this is impossible to ignore
• Abdominal massage - and how it supports digestion, circulation and oestrogen metabolism in ways that surprise many of my clients

I work with clients every week who are dealing with the downstream effects of hormonal imbalance. Once we start to address the root causes, the difference it makes - to energy, mood, pain levels, and overall wellbeing - can be profound.

If any of this sounds familiar, the blog is a really good place to start. You can read it here ▶️ discoverwellbeing.info/balance-hormones

Client feedback like this is a powerful reminder of how holistic therapies can support the body in multiple, interconnected ways.

Abdominal massage is often associated with digestive support, but as this client experience highlights, its benefits can extend to scar tissue care, hormonal health, musculoskeletal support and overall wellbeing.

We are always grateful when clients are willing to share their experiences so others can better understand what this treatment may support.

"Jo has been doing some abdominal massage work for me and I can't recommend her highly enough.

I needed her help after finding out that I had adenomyosis which was causing very heavy and long periods. The difference has been amazing and the work she carried out benefited me in multiple ways.

During the sessions she also work on a C-section scar which was tight and red and she has eased the tension and there is now no redness, it is much more comfortable and the protective fat that built up around it has also reduced. She also noticed that I had a separation in my abdominal muscles, probably caused by the C-section. By sorting this issue my muscles are obviously supporting me much better as my lower back pain that I have suffered with for many years has completely gone.

Jo explained the abdominal massage will also help with digestive issues and the body would be able absorb vitamins and minerals much more affectively, and she was not wrong! With in weeks my iron levels were better, my hair felt nicer and my nails, that had been layering and breaking for months, started to grow long and strong.

She is the nicest person and I was extremely comfortable for Jo to be carrying out the treatment. She is a fountain of knowledge in nutrition and answered so many question marks I have had.

Jo is extremely passionate about what she does and therefore it's no surprise that she is continuously reading and learning broadening her knowledge to help her clients. Thank you Jo for being so amazing!"

One of the sessions we offer at Jo Medhurst Therapies is the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a gentle psychological tapping method that combines focused intention with light tapping on key energy meridian points of the body. EFT is designed to help you reduce stress, calm emotional tension and support your overall emotional wellbeing from the comfort of your own home.

Here are 5 key benefits of EFT:

1. Reduces stress and anxiety
EFT helps calm the nervous system, easing the emotional tension that builds from daily stress and persistent worry. By tapping while focusing on what’s bothering you, many people feel calmer, more grounded and better able to cope with life’s ups and downs.

2. Encourages calmer responses to persistent stress
Regular EFT practice supports more regulated reactions to stressful situations. Instead of spiralling into anxiety or overwhelm, many users report a greater sense of emotional control and resilience - like they can respond with ease rather than react on auto-pilot.

3. Supports the emotional aspects of physical symptoms
Emotional stress often shows up in the body - tension, discomfort, digestive issues, headaches, etc. EFT’s mind-body approach can help ease the emotional triggers connected to physical symptoms by reducing emotional tension and interrupting stress patterns.

4. Helps manage emotional patterns
By gently acknowledging and tapping through difficult feelings, EFT can help you work through emotional patterns that keep you stuck - like persistent negative thoughts, self-doubt, or emotional overwhelm. Over time, this can foster more positive thinking and emotional balance.

5. Practical and accessible
One of the biggest perks of EFT is how accessible it is - no special equipment, no complex training needed. Once you learn the basics of tapping, you can use it on your own whenever stress, tension or heavy emotions flare up, helping you keep a sense of calm in the moment.

Another lovely testimonial from one of my fabulous clients.

This client came to me following a diagnosis of adenomyosis, which is a gynaecological condition that causes endometrial tissue in the lining of the uterus to grow into the muscular wall of the uterus and a C-Section scar that was sore and red.

Following our sessions not only was her scar looking better and feeling much more comfortable but the lower back pain she had suffered with for many years has completely gone.

The adenomyosis symptoms and associated digestive issues have also improved massively with my client reporting that her iron levels are so much better that her hair and my nails are growing longer and stronger.

🌿 Hey there, lovely people! 🌿

I'm Jo, a dedicated holistic therapist with over 14 years of experience specializing in fertility massage, scar work, and abdominal massage. I'm incredibly passionate about the transformative power of therapy—I've seen first-hand the profound changes it can bring, from aiding conception to enhancing overall well-being. It's not just a job; it's my calling, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.

🌟 Curious about my treatments? 🌟

Abdominal massage is fantastic for addressing digestive issues like IBS, and it's also beneficial for a wide range of gynaecological and fertility concerns such as endometriosis, PCOS, and fibroids.

Scar massage therapy, on the other hand, is designed to improve scar appearance, enhance mobility, and is particularly helpful for those recovering from C-sections or other surgical procedures.

🌿 But it's not just physical—holistic healing is about understanding the whole picture. 🌿

When working with clients, I delve into diet, stress levels, and other contributing factors to ensure we achieve the best possible results together.

📚 And yes, there might be a little homework involved! 📚

I'm a firm believer in empowering clients with tools for self-care. Each person receives a tailored program including nutritional guidance and self-help techniques like massage and yoga to support their healing journey.

Here on my Instagram, you can expect plenty of insights and support on gut health, hormones, menstrual cycles, scar tissue management, and overall wellness.

Did you know that Child’s Pose, a simple and restorative yoga position, can help improve your digestion? By gently compressing the abdomen, this pose stimulates digestive organs, helping to move things along more smoothly. It’s a natural way to relieve bloating and promote regularity.

Child’s Pose also encourages relaxation and reduces stress, which can significantly impact digestive health. When you’re relaxed, your body can focus more on efficient digestion and nutrient absorption. Plus, it’s a great way to take a moment for yourself and connect with your breath.

To try it, simply kneel on the floor, sit back on your heels, and fold your torso forward, extending your arms in front of you or by your sides. Breathe deeply and let the gentle pressure work its magic on your digestive system.

**As with all exercise make sure you are working within a pain-free range and exercise within your limits. Never force, strain, or practice through pain. Seek medical attention and advice as appropriate. Do not attempt any yoga poses or exercises for the first time without suitable experience and/or supervision.**

Suffer from heavy periods?

If you experience heavy periods, incorporating an iron supplement into your diet can be incredibly beneficial.

Iron is essential for transporting oxygen throughout your body and maintaining energy levels Heavy menstrual bleeding can lead to iron deficiency, making you feel tired and weak. By boosting your iron levels, you can improve your energy and overall well-being during your cycle.
Want to add more iron rich foods to your diet? Why not try adding nuts, seeds, wholemeal pasta and bread, legumes and dark leafy green vegetables to your daily meals

**If you think you could be iron deficient consult with your GP to find the right iron supplement for you.**

As children begin potty training, or even later, families often notice that their little ones struggle with regular toilet habits.

Sometimes, kids can go days without a bowel movement, leaving them uncomfortable, bloated, and often unhappy.

Dealing with constipation in children can be challenging for parents who want to help but may hesitate to rely solely on laxatives. Over time, it can feel like these only mask the problem rather than solving it.

Fortunately, there are alternative methods you can try at home to help, check out my blog post to find out how.
