A slightly different one from us this week…

With St George’s Day coming up on 23rd April, we’ve taken a deeper look into the history behind it - from who St George really was, to how he became such an important figure in England’s identity.

It’s a chance to explore the story a bit more and understand what the day is really about.

If you’ve ever wondered about the meaning behind the tradition, this gives you a little time to read up ahead of the day itself.

World Art Day 🎨

Art isn’t just about being “good” at drawing or painting - it’s about enjoying the moment.

For many older adults, creative activities like painting, colouring, or crafts can be a really positive part of the day. It can help with relaxation, bring back memories, and offer a simple way to express thoughts and feelings.

Sometimes it’s not about the end result at all - just the process, the colours, and a bit of quiet time doing something enjoyable.

You might not end up with a masterpiece… but that’s never really the point.

National Gardening Day 🌱

Spending time in the garden has been shown to help improve mood, reduce stress, and even support memory and cognitive function. It also encourages gentle physical activity, helping with mobility, strength, and overall wellbeing.

But beyond the health benefits, it’s often the simple things that matter most - the sense of purpose, the routine, and the quiet satisfaction of watching something grow.

Whether it’s tending to flower beds, watering plants, or just sitting outside and enjoying the fresh air, gardening can make a meaningful difference.

Today is a lovely reminder of how powerful those small, everyday moments can be 🌼

World Parkinson’s Day 🌷

Today marks World Parkinson’s Day, raising awareness of a condition that affects millions of people worldwide.

The day itself is recognised on 11th April, the birthday of Dr James Parkinson, the physician who first described the condition in 1817. His work helped lay the foundation for what we now understand about Parkinson’s today.

In the UK, around 145,000 people live with Parkinson’s, and it can affect individuals in many different ways. While some symptoms, such as tremors, are more widely recognised, others - including fatigue, sleep difficulties, and changes in mood - are not always visible.

It’s a condition that impacts not only those living with it, but also the families and carers who support them every day.

Raising awareness helps build understanding, patience, and better support for everyone affected.

National Siblings Day 💙

Sibling relationships are a mix of loyalty, chaos, and a lifetime of shared memories (and probably a bit of friendly embarrassment along the way).

We couldn’t let today pass without sharing this throwback of Lee with his sisters.

We’re not sure he's changed much - what do you think?

7th April – A Day of Contrasts

Somehow, the 7th of April has been given two very different titles… National Beer Day and National Health Day.

Who decides these things, we’re not entirely sure - but it does feel like mixed messages.

On one hand, it’s a great reminder to look after ourselves - whether that’s getting some fresh air, moving a little more, or taking time to focus on our wellbeing.

On the other, it’s also a day many might use to unwind and enjoy a drink.

So the question is… will you be putting on your running shoes or picking up a pint?

As always, it’s about balance - and doing what feels right for you.

Easter Monday

The quieter follow-up to a busy Easter weekend.

For some, it’s about getting out of the house, making the most of the long weekend, or catching up with family. For others, it’s a slower day - a chance to reset before normal routines start again.

And let’s be honest, it’s also the day where the leftover chocolate somehow becomes completely acceptable at any time of day.

However you’re spending it, we hope you’re enjoying a well-earned break.

🍫 Happy Easter 🐣

Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful Easter.

Whether today is about faith and tradition, time with family, or simply enjoying a slower day (and a bit too much chocolate), we hope it’s a good one.

However you celebrate, Easter means something a little different to everyone - and that’s what makes it special.

Good Friday 🌞

As the day winds down, many will be taking a moment to reflect on the meaning of Good Friday.

For some, it’s a deeply important day of faith and remembrance. For others, it’s simply a chance to pause, slow things down, and spend a bit of time with the people who matter most.

However it’s observed, today carries a quieter, more reflective tone - something that can be easy to overlook in the rush of everyday life.

Wishing a peaceful evening to those marking Good Friday.
