I love how these guys each have such strong, individual personalities and characters, and how you can catch so much of them in one photo! 🀣

I wouldn't change any of them for the world! 🀍🀎🩢

There’s something magical about days like thisβ€¦πŸ©΅

A crisp blue sky, frost sparkling underfoot, and the sun weaving its way through the trees. The Shetlands grazing together, the chickens foraging nearby β€” simple moments, slow rhythms, and the kind of peace you can feel settling in your chest.

Winter reminds us to pause, breathe, and savour the little things. And here at OATS, it’s often these small, gentle scenes that bring the biggest sense of calm. β„οΈπŸ«ΆπŸŒž

Our newest office assistant was caught sleeping on the job today! πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ”

Poor Poppy is going through a very severe moult at the moment and was seen shivering in the cold outside. We offered her the opportunity to come and take a warm nap indoors and she jumped at the chance!

We all have moments where we need a little extra care, and today it was Poppy's turn! πŸ” A little reminder that when life gets a bit too cold, it's ok to take shelter and rest! πŸ’•

This was Gandalf's way of saying a massive thank you to the young person who helped to clean his stable today in their session! It took a bit of muscle pushing the wheelbarrow of new shavings all the way to the stable, but at least the physical work kept us all warm in the freezing temperatures today! πŸ’ͺπŸΌβ„οΈ

We love having students joining us at OATS. They always bring buckets of enthusiasm and fun ideas! We particularly love the Interoception programme and clay tree spirits projects that our current students have taken on! 🌳🍁🌿🌼

We hope this makes a positive change from stressful hospital placements for them!

Snow Globe Spirit Animals:

On rainy days, reflecting on our strengths and positive qualities. Because it's always important to be reminded of the good things; our achievements, things we are proud of, our abilities, things other people like about us and most importantly the things we like about ourselves.

Self-esteem, self-belief, self-acceptance and self-love can't be underestimated, and these underpin everything we do at OATS.

Whether it's developing confidence through successfully guiding Bertie through an agility course, or gaining the trust and building a strong connection with a pony to be able to support them to overcome a challenge, or learning the rabbit's body language signals to be able to help them feel safe being handled, we feel privileged to be a part of these moments, watching self-belief grow, step by step. πŸ’•

Better late than never!

We didn't get around to posting our 'End of Summer Holiday Group' post, so here it is!

This summer, we were lucky to be joined by a fantastic group of staff who were all passionate about supporting our young people to grow in confidence, believe in themselves and learn some life skills along the way! Our Occupational Therapy students came from both Brighton and Southampton universities this year, and each one of them was an asset to the team, providing a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for our children.

It was lovely to see our young people gaining new skills each day β€” from building self-belief and resilience to practising self-regulation, problem-solving, connecting with others and feeling accepted for exactly who they are. Watching them support one another, try new things and shine in their own unique ways was truly special.

And of course, our animals had just as much fun! They were thoroughly pampered with walks, treats, grooming sessions and lots of love. They enjoyed enrichment toys made especially for them, and had fun doing obstacle challenges that stimulated their minds! They all had a really big sleep and restful week before starting sessions again in September!

Thank you to all the families who trusted us with your incredible young people this summer. Seeing the joy, courage and growth that unfolded β€” between children, staff and animals alike β€” is exactly why we love what we do! πŸ’•πŸπŸ’πŸŽπŸ‡πŸπŸ•πŸ“

We absolutely love our new pond! πŸŸπŸ’§πŸŒŠβ›²β˜˜οΈπŸŒΏπŸŒΈπŸŒΊπŸͺ»πŸΈ

Thank you to everyone who helped to dig it and put it together over the last week! It really was a joint effort between lots of OATS staff and the young people we work with! A special thank you to Aaron Thorneley our handyman/groundskeeper/all round superstar for his amazing efforts in this (and every) project!

We can't wait to see what wildlife decides to come and visit, and are really looking forward to lots of mindfulness moments sitting in this spot, watching the fish, listening to the water fountain and the birds! πŸ˜ŒπŸ¦β›²

It's amazing what you can achieve in a couple of days with all hands on deck! πŸ’•
