Despite a few recent indiscretions (we’ll gloss over those 👀🐾), Ellie has been back doing what she does best 💛

As a fully qualified therapy dog, Ellie has been attending a local school with her mum, and today she truly showed her value. She supported three children in returning to their classrooms, with one regulating incredibly quickly, and also provided three supportive moments for staff.

Her calm presence, intuitive nature, and gentle engagement made a real difference throughout the day. We’re so proud of the meaningful impact she continues to have 🐶✨

Important clarification regarding Ellie’s professional conduct… 🐾

Following reports of a quiche-related incident at a director’s hen party last night, we can confirm:

Ellie was off duty.

While on shift, Ellie is the definition of professionalism — calm, regulated, and an impeccable therapy companion.
Off duty… she appears to specialise in opportunistic snack acquisition 🥧👀

No regrets. No crumbs left behind.

A reminder that even the best therapy dogs need downtime… although perhaps with slightly less access to buffet tables 😅

Even therapy dogs aren’t above the law… 🚨🐾

Ellie has been formally charged with:
• Destruction of newly planted seeds
• Excessive digging without consent
• Pretending to be cute and innocent at the scene of the crime

As an OT, I can confirm there was excellent sensory seeking, heavy work, and determination involved… however, the client (mummy) is not satisfied with the outcome 😣

Disciplinary action pending. Ellie remains unapologetic.

She has completed Module 2 of Ayres Sensory Integration® training, an internationally recognised postgraduate qualification. 🎓

This advanced training strengthens our understanding of how sensory processing affects behaviour, learning and daily activities, helping us better support children with SEND.

Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s typical and what might need a little extra support.

Speech and language development can vary so much, but early help can make a big difference to confidence, communication and learning.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs, it doesn’t mean something is “wrong”, it might just mean your child could benefit from some extra guidance and support.

Trust your instincts. You know your child best.
Seeking advice is never overreacting; it’s advocating.

After school can look like meltdowns over snacks, tears about “nothing”, and big emotions that seem to come out of nowhere.
But it’s often just after-school overwhelm.

They’ve spent the day listening, learning, sharing, coping with noise, following rules, and holding it all together. By the time they get home, you’re their safe place to let it out.

Try slowing things down:
✨ snack first
✨ quiet time or play
✨ connection before questions
✨ no rush to talk

Sometimes they don’t need fixing, just space to reset.

You’re not doing anything wrong… you’re just seeing the decompress. 🤍

Advanced Notice!

🌿 We’re pressing pause over Easter to practise what we preach 🌿

At FunctionAbility, we’re strong believers in the importance of work-life balance, and that includes our own team.

From 5pm on Friday 27th March, the whole company will be closed to allow our staff some well-deserved downtime.

📅 What to expect:
Friday 27th April (5pm) - Tuesday 7th April (9am): FunctionAbility will be closed.

Tuesday 7th April (9am) – Monday 13th April (9am): Our Directors and Admin team will be back for admin-related enquiries only.

From Monday 13th April (9am): All Therapists and Therapy Assistants will return to work as normal.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding while we take this time to recharge, so we can continue delivering the best possible support.

AI can share information.

But it can’t sit on the floor and notice the tiny shifts in posture.
It can’t feel the regulation in a room.
It can’t build trust with a child who’s had to mask all day.

Occupational therapy is human.
It’s relational.
It’s nuanced.

And no algorithm can replace that.
