Another month flown by, where is the time going? The ladies Soroptimist came to do some crafts with the residents and made some Lavender bags and the smell in the lounge was beautiful. The residents had an afternoon with a Beatles sing a long and Beatles quiz with a reminisce about the dances that they used to attend. It was laughs all round when the game Pictionary was played with some of the drawings looking nothing like they were supposed to but our very clever residents guessed them all! An afternoon of call my bluff with Bingley Grammar School students was enjoyed by all and everyone laughed at some of the pronunciations of the words and yes they came out of the dictionary! The residents fired the beanbags at the cans with force in tin can alley and there was stiff competition from all opponents. 180!! Nearly, in the magnetic darts competition and the afternoon of crazy golf was enjoyed by the residents who participated. A Spanish afternoon with Five Rise very own seniorita and matador serving Sangria to residents with a photo shoot was enjoyed by all residents who were busy playing the castanets to the famous song viva espanya!

The month of August has been a busy one for the residents which started with a visit from Flash the miniature Shetland therapy pony. Residents got a lot of joy stroking him and asked Mollie lots of questions. Marion came to entertain the residents with the monthly musical moments in which the residents sang, did some chair exercise and played musical instruments throughout the afternoon. Tin can alley and crazy golf were played with lots of concentration from the residents. We had a Turkish afternoon and had none other than Turkish delight! The lovely Soroptimist ladies came and made some very pretty tissue flowers with the residents to put in their rooms. Plenty of birthdays to celebrate so lots of homemade cakes and buns were made for the residents to enjoy. The residents had some lovely afternoons with vocalist Andy Wiseman and sax player Neil Wilkinson. The mobile ice cream parlour has been doing its rounds with plenty of chocolate ices, ice lollies, cornetoes, and ice cream cones, the residents tucked into them on the hot sunny days with delight!

A great month for residents who have enjoyed plenty in the activity, social and leisure plan. Home grown strawberries and cream were yum as we celebrated Wimbledon tennis and then our holiday at home week with residents enjoying an Hawaiian Mocktail afternoon, fish and chips in a box and a fabulous concert by the chilton sisters. We had two summer competitions on the go included residents growing sunflowers from seed and guess how many sweets in a jar. Everyone was blown away by the beautiful sunflowers which grew some lovely big yellow flower heads. The residents enjoyed a summer sing a long singing 50’s 60’s and 70’s songs and we definitely have a five rise choir in the making! The residents sensory garden has been very colourful and the members of the gardening club have been busy collecting all the crops for the kitchen to use. During the nice weather residents have been spending time on our bygone days street and had some good old reminiscing looking at the collection of memorabilia bringing back lots of memories to share. Some residents have had their birthdays and enjoyed the fantastic home made birthday cakes made by the kitchen staff!
