So this week marks ten years since I left the corporate world of funerals and started my own business.
Running my own business has been difficult at times, I often work in excess of 16 hour days and go without holidays etc, yet I wouldn’t change a thing.
From being a young boy my ambition was to become a funeral director and I have been extremely lucky to have been able to follow my dream.
Being a funeral director isn’t a job, it’s a vocation and I never forget what a privilege it is to be trusted with the responsibility of caring for a loved one and their family.
While I may have my name on the side of my premises none of what I do on a daily basis could be done without the support of my friends and colleagues but in particular my own family who themselves have had to put up with going without holidays and evenings out, being woken at 3am when I’ve been called out and never knowing what time I would walk through the door, without their support I wouldn’t still be in business.
I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the past ten years and in particular my wife Jayne who has been behind me 100%.
Jayne told me to go on my own many years before I did and has encouraged me when things have become tough and so it’s really all down to her.
I’m so glad that I eventually listened and found the courage to become an independent funeral director and to be able to serve the community with a more personal approach.
Thank you one and all from the bottom of my heart and here’s to the next ten years.
