This year the UN theme is “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls”, and it calls for action to dismantle all barriers to equal justice: discriminatory laws, weak legal protections, and harmful practices and social norms that erode the rights of women and girls.

The UN found that in nearly 70 per cent of surveyed countries, women face more barriers accessing justice than men. 44% of countries do not have laws that guarantee equal pay. 3 in 4 countries still permit child marriage cutting short childhoods, education and futures.

We celebrate the women’s movement worldwide and we are grateful to our supporters for choosing equality.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the theme Give to Gain by highlighting the incredible women across our Trust who support others every day.

Dr Jane, GP Champion at Sexual Health Wirral, shares her thoughts...

"International Women's Day celebrates everyone who identifies as a woman or girl, recognising their strength, diversity and potential.

It’s a reminder of our shared responsibility to push for equity in every part of life and to create opportunities for empowerment, learning and growth - no matter a person’s background. Via my work for Sexual Health Wirral, I feel privileged to be able to help women with their s*xual and reproductive health.

Together, we can ensure every woman and girl has the chance to thrive."

The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Awareness week is ‘This is My Place’.

To know our place and really feel part of our environment is a basic human need. When we feel that we belong, it empowers us to contribute to the world and make a real difference. Having that sense of ‘belonging’ can bring powerful and long-lasting impacts in lots of areas of our lives, including our physical and mental health, education, employment and relationships.

Having good support systems surrounding our children helps to create inclusive and nurturing environments, where children and young people feel they belong and can say "This is My Place".

Top tips from children and young people on how to help them feel a sense of belonging:
* Parents, carers or community groups can help belonging by asking questions about things they see us becoming passionate about.
* By checking in with you, providing support and making you feel safe and important.
* By being there and being happy
* By doing things that make you feel happy and safe
* Letting us choose our likes and interests and letting us explore new things.
* Parents taking time to listen and speak to us, reassure us.
* Making a comfortable, welcoming place for us.

HIV can affect all ages, genders, ethnicities and s*xualities and a large number of new HIV infections come from unprotected s*x with someone who isn’t aware they have HIV.
